And what did we learn from this thread:
1. After the Rosa Parks comment Mr. Utah, we should never take anything he posts seriously again.
2. Disco apparently doesn't have any of his own thoughts and merely ripped off a NYTimes article word for word, but tweaked it to seem like they were his own.
I can't add nominate any women as the only ones I want to immortalize are artists, and I'm not sure that's the direction of Mt Rushmore.

Waaat? The NYT reported on the Rachel Carson junk science book and the consequences of banning DDT? I don't believe it!

The OP must be upset because he can't get a date. Truth be told, until the last 40 years or so, there was a lot of institutional discrimination towards women. Now, that is not the case. Given that most college and graduate degrees are going to women (60/40 ratio), I'd say the most influential women are yet to come. Sandra Day O'Connor, Christa McAuliffe, and Condoleezza Rice come to mind. But like I said, the current and next generation of leaders is going to be mostly women.
This brings up a really good question. Based on the current distribution of women at colleges, when should we expect to see women reach parity with men in entrepreneurship, CEOs, inventors, leaders, etc?
Shouldn't we already be much farther along than we are today?
It might be a while before the US elects four women to the presidency. That'll give us time to find another Mt for the memorial.

We don't need to find a mountain. A mole hill will do. The women will have no trouble making a mountain out of it.

Sandra Day OConner,
Rosa Parks,

Nobody. There's never been a female US president.
Bingo. And the all male version sucks. Complete waste of time and fuel to drive out and back only to see the defacing of the black hills. I hope Jefferson got in there because of his work on the DoI because his presidency was meh. And Teddy Roosevelt? Only got the job via assassination. I'm ok with the other two.
lol

Rachel Carson never advocated for a worldwide ban on DDT. A ban on DDT in the western hemisphere was necessary because of the effects it had on many species of birds. Pelicans were almost extinct due to DDT causing pelican eggs to dissolve before the birds laid their eggs. DDT also killed beneficial pollinators, which was a big threat to farming.
In the third world, many saw DDT as colonial pest control. DDT is a probable carcinogen that stays in soil and water for 20-30 years. Malaria was eliminated from many third world countries without DDT by using window and door screens and insecticide treated mosquito bed nets, as well as draining standing water. Many breeds of mosquitos are becoming resistant to DDT.
