Eyestone doesn't allow that. School still has liability. Unless something has changed in the last several years, he allows non-team members to workout with the team during the open try out period. After that, those that didn't make the cut can train together, separately. He still writes workouts for them.
That's why the guy I'm talking about was a great coach. He didn't care what the admins said or what liability was. He just wanted to help kids get better not matter who they were.

Playing devil's advocate here, if a runner died at practice and the parents sued the school and he lost his job and/or the program was cut, would he still be a great coach? Recklessness isn't a sign of greatness.
Anyway, I got the feeling Eyestone says this in order to keep control of practices. A program like that has to draw a line somewhere, or else they'll have 100 guys at practice. He still provides development opportunities through the farm. IMHO he and Wetmore are the best coaches in the NCAA.

Didn't anyone else notice Jared Ward in the video?
yeah I did...smashing the kids
This workout was filmed over a month ago when their team was still going through the try-out process. They filmed this workout the same day they filmed the girls team. Athletes have since been cut. Blame Flotrack for holding on to their footage for so long.

This is correct. I know for a fact that some of these guys are not on the team. And it certainly hasn't been that warm in a while.
I don't know when that video was recorded, but it was during the open tryout period. Which has been over for a while now.
USAF Academy has a large roster (25...which isn’t that many actually) but it’s not because cadets are required to do two activities per year. True, every cadet is required to be in a club or play intramural sports, but this does not grant them access to the NCAA division I cross country program. Aside from a manager or two, everyone on the team is a rostered athlete. Cadets don’t just sign up for XC as an activity and get on the team. They have to be recruited or walk on and make it on the roster. Where did you get your information? It is not correct.
As a former BYU Track runner and someone who still occasionally works out with the team I can tell you a couple things about this video:
1) It does include walk-ons as it was recorded earlier in the season. BYU often has over a dozen people trying to walk onto the team.
2) The video also includes BYU's mid-distance crew that specialized in 800/1600 in track. These guys are not on the XC roster but often due shortened versions of the XC works.
3) Yes, that is Jared Ward working out with the team.
Between the mid-distance group and the walk-ons, probably 15+ of the guys in the video are not on the XC team but have a valid reason to be participating in the workout.
is it just me or did they all look like they were running hard on the easy reps

The "easy" pace was still supposed to be 80's (5:20 pace) so it makes sense it would still look relatively hard.
