There's a RnR half near me this weekend - while I was tempted to pay $175 to get up at 4am to run a crappy course that I can run for free if I wanted to any other day of the year, I obviously decided not to.
But are the expos worth going to? Any decent discounts? I think Brooks is usually a sponsor of these things and I like their shoes and shorts, so if there are discounts it's easy enough for me to go over there to buy some stuff.

I can't speak to RNR events, but would avoid them in general. Regarding Brooks, I recently ran in a non-RNR race that had a large Brooks expo booth. They had a wheel to spin for prizes and I ended up getting a spin in a booth with little slips of paper flying around, one of which won me a free pair of shoes. So, the free shoes more than paid for my entry. I feel a little bit of goodness toward Brooks as a result. Good on 'em. Several others won the same prize while I was standing around, so they weren't cheaping out that day.
I once did the RnR 1/2 in New Orleans and they had that wheel thing going. I got a pretty nice shirt and a hat. Not turning my nose up on that. The prices for their merchandise at the Expo is nothing great.
