A grassroots movement to stop the lure of the Boston Marathon and make money in the process

I am interested in getting a grassroots group of sub 3 hour marathoner rebels who are sick of marathons selling out months in advance all for the ridiculous crazy hobbyjoggers and their need to qualify for Boston. So here's my idea. We get a few hundred sub 3 hr rebels together at letsrun who could qualify for Boston with their eyes closed to all register for Boston, but instead turn around and sell our bibs online for $1000+ to rich international tourists who want to come and run the damn Boston thing. They'll get our low number bibs and clog up the start line since they'll be in the 1st corral but can't break 4 hours, similar to Mike Rossi.

If enough people do this and join our movement, then the prestige of "running Boston" will finally die and we will no longer have ridiculous hobbyjogger qualifier efforts for a dumb race.

I applaud your heroism. We are in the tradition of the greatest, Dr. King would be proud of us. We should also think about other powerful acts of civil disobedience. I urge everyone to stay nonviolent so as to not diminish our worthy cause.

Or, you guys could stand at the front of corral 1 and interlock arms from fence to fence keeping everyone from crossing the start line.

Wonderful. I think the kneeling is inappropriate. I like blocking the course. To maximize impact, do it a quarter mile in, so you block a lot of people whose clock is already ticking. Also we should recite a passage from Henry D. Thoreau's Walden.

Well I don't want to be insensitive but there already was a "grassroots" movement that involved many dead and injured and that didn't deter anyone from going. So find another marathon.

Why would they want to do that? At that point, you've already given BAA your money so they don't care whether you do the actual race or not

You know though, there is a point to this.

My first marathon (1990) was almost an after thought after a good summer of racing.

In August I picked one in October, entered, and added some long runs to my basic 10k-20k program.

Now, you have to decide in the fall if you're going to be free and injury free in April of the following year.

If you're so fast, what do you care who is running middle and back of pack at Boston?

You know, you would also be getting in the way of some pretty fast women and upper age groupers, but I guess you are too self centered to realize that.

You must be real winner to want to sabotage a race just because other people actually enjoy running it. Please, go ahead and get banned by selling your bib. We don't need a self-absorbed psycho loser like you running it anyway.

Good Luck with that...Boston is Boston. Always had to qualify. That's one of the reasons it's so great.There's plenty of other races, marathons around to fill in the gap.And to think your a runner...shame on you. SHAME
