He'll probably go for Boston, but the window is closing for any attempt at a fast time. He is 31. He only has a few more shots. Let's go already.
I have to confess I agree with this more than a lot of the crowd on here. I don't consider him to 'basically have already run 2:06' or even 'has a 2:04 in him'.
Great as he has been at 10k, he isn't close to top US times in the full or half. He doesn't have the AR in anything longer than his specialty. The
World is even further out of reach. I don't see him surpassing Hall and Ritz at those events and he only really has a couple more attempts.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him do something really cool. Huddle is going for AR at Houston half, and
Dubai is a record-worthy course around that same time. Too close to Chicago? Well, Berlin is effectively a WR attempt every year and that leaves time for a Spring race of some sort. I'm wondering what he can do in an all-out half. London is the de facto world championship in the same way Fukuoka was decades ago.
There are a lot of options that could answer all questions as to what he's capable of. I know a lot of you think a 59 flat half or a 2:06 flat full are formalities; he just has to get around to it. l don't necessarily agree but it would be easy enough to find out. I do agree that he basically has 2018 to do something special as the biological clock is indeed ticking.
