Jordan on the the right day , fast course is without question sub 2:23.
And why would you a complete stranger pre race go up to her as if you knew her and strike up a conversation with an insulting tone.Use your brain.

I agree that he sounded rude, but as a professional runner, Hasay was not being classy either (maybe rightly so, even though)
She is not being classy because a stranger made a rude comment to her two minutes before her race and she didn't thank him? It was very classy of her not to curse him out.

What about just saying "oh yeah, have a good race!"
That is because marathoning, the triathlon, bodybuilding and other extreme sports are hard on the body. I have known many young people who were done running well after their first marathon.
The fact some are gifted enough to keep on doing these things does not mean that everyone can.
I favor track & field meets, 5Ks, 10Ks, and perhaps events up to 13.1 miles.
You prepare for these things by doing 22 mile runs. Currently many world class marathoners long runs are as short as 18 miles!
Like the Kenyans say Train Hard, Win Easy.
Few are interested in doing that.

A really solid preview minus this comment. You could say her results at 5k/10k never indicated a 2:23:00 marathon but her 67:55 half marathon does.r.
The first sentence above was meant to be axed.
That was in there initially and then I realized her half might be a 2:23 on some conversions so we wrote later, "Prior to Boston, Hasay ran 68:40 and 67:55 for the half-marathon with that 67:55 being the only thing in Hasay’s career that anyone might think was indicative of a 2:23 flat marathon."
But nothing pre Boston buildup even suggested it was remotely possible. If I asked most people a year ago, will Jordan Hasay ever run 2:23 flat in a marathon or be top 3 at at world marathon major, people would have laughed at me.
I'm going to remove the ""Nothing else in Hasay's career converts to anything close to a 2:23 flat marathon..." comment.
It was just before the race and I was a little
hi energy". I said it in a manner I thought she would get--I congratulated her, etc. Top runners are not considered complete strangers to other runners especially 10M from the starting line when they are running the same race.
She will. If she will be coached by the new phantom coach js.

I am with you. Runners tend to be over-sensitive about things, as opposed to the laid-back attitude we see from sprinters. There's a reason distance running is not as popular.
She can definitely go faster than 2:23:00. It's obvious that she'll be targeting the marathon for the next Olympics so she has a good three or so years in front of her while still in her 20s where she will be laser focused on improving in the marathon. She just needs to avoid big pay days like New York that will never give her a good time.
She should do big pay day races in 2017, 2018, and 2019 so she can have a two marathon year in 2020. trials and OG, then 2021 hit the money trail again.

Yes, she will better her time, but it won't be on a warm day; she has typically struggled with heat.

No.
No pal of mine.
If you believe you can or should approach an elite in the moments prior to a race.
And run your mouth,
Then you don't get it.

+1, I bumped into her at the airport after the Philly RNR Half and she couldn't have been nicer. Not sure why someone would approach an elite athlete right before their race and say anything more than good luck. I think she handled it well considering.
Yes, she will do at least as well as 2:23. A solid achievement on the Chicago course.
Yes
