People don't like to talk about the truth.
People don't like to talk about the truth.
I left a six figure job for one that pays slightly less. I probably won't crack six figures again. I did it because it's a 40hr/wk job max, and gives me lots of time with my family. If that makes me lazy, then I guess I'm lazy.

...but I'm still in high school?..

Generally that is true but in many places in the US, you simply don't need that kind of cash to live very well, given cheap housing and no gargantuan tax nut to crack, no expensive eateries and no ridiculous entertainment costs. I see what my East Coast siblings spend on transportation (parking, tolls, insurance, etc, plus horrid air and no place for recreation and it makes me realize that life is full of trade-offs.
Uncomfortable, unspoken truth: If you have to judge people based on how much they make you're either insecure or a jerk or both.
People don't like to talk about the truth.
If you post threads with titles such as this you are insecure. Stop labelling other people and work on your own miserable life.

Thanks for the update! Keep us posted!
This isn't true though?

Comfortable, spoken truth: If you make posts on a running message board about people who make less than 100k being either dumb or lazy or both you're a complete wanker riven by flaccid white rage and crippling insecurities.
But cool story, bro.

Found the poor, lazy, dumb, and jealous guy.
A salary of say 75K is plenty to live on in probably 90% of the US. Assuming 2 kids or less.

(guy making a whopping 45k per annum)
Well that would be
$300k in Frisco or Hollyweird or Dago
$200k in Sacratomatoe
So freaking false.
1. Tons of smart, motivated people aren't given the opportunities or lucky breaks in life that lead to making lots of money. Look at upward mobility numbers ... it is very unlikely to raise yourself out of poverty even in the USA. "Successful" people always conveniently forget all the advantages that helped them get where they are, when others don't always have those advantages.
2. There are also smart, motivated people who don't care about making lots of money. Maybe they care about helping people, or running fast, or something else in life than the money rat race. Example: lots of high school teachers.
This thread is a honeypot for dumb, lazy losers in denial making 50k.
So are neurosurgery residents dumb, lazy, or both?
You can tell this thread was made by some out of touch boomer/gen-xer because they think that simply breaking six figures is still relevant.
Yeah I guess that meant something 20-30 years ago when you finally settling into your career in middle-management. Now it isn't even part of the top 1%.
To compare it to running that it is like being proud of running a 20 minute 5k. Yeah you are better than the people who don't try/train. Good job.

Your statement doesn't account for time value of money in a cost benefit analysis equation.
Person A: Graduated from high school at age 17, undergrad at 21 and law school 24. Person A as a practicing attorney never makes more than $87,500 a year.
Person B: Took a gap year after high school to hang out. Person B took a gap year after undergrad to hang out. Person B got through PhD program eventually by age 37. By age 47 Person B is making $110,000 a year.
I do not feel like taking the time to do cost benefit analysis on Person A and Person B. We cannot make a snap judgement that Person B is smarter or harder working than Person A.
Lazy Crew checking in.
oh, sure, those in finance are the only smart, hard-working ones. Nonsense. Choose your parents wisely and be greedy and you have an excellent shot at making a lot of money. Doing something to help others is hardly incompatible with intelligence and hard work.
