Ryan Hall should be a D1 assistant coach.

Agreed.
Except if you actually read the very detailed source articles available about this coaching gig you quickly learn that his daughter goes to this high school and runs for their team. All your theoretical musings are rendered useless when faced with the reality of things.
I hear God really writes the workouts, Ryan just holds the stopwatch.

Why?
I feel like if I was just looking to have fun, I would choose coaching a high school over college. Less stressful, less results orientated, more laid back. To be fair, I could see dealing with the parents, the school, and some JV morons being frustrating.
However, being able to promote the pure love of the sport, whether a kid is trying to break 15:00 or 25:00, I could see that being a blast, even for an elite guy like Hall. I'm sure he could be a great college coach too, but I think I can understand why he would choose this.
And, oh yeah, if his kid is on the team, then that tips the scales.
Ryan Hall has a high-school aged daughter?

so you are telling us Ryan is a volunteer assistant.
I don't see why people are upset about this. He's coaching his kid. That's called being a good father.

God wasn't working out and was fired.

That's why I coach HS. Being an assistant at a D1 college means that pretty much your whole job consists of recruiting. You're like a used car dealer.
Good on him for stepping up. Period.
I don't think people on here realize how much work goes into building a good high school program. You don't just throw out some magic workouts, sit back, and watch the championships roll in.
Our VG team just ran in a meet against a good team from a school 3x our size that is coached by a former 2x Olympic team member. We beat them. The thing is, I talked to that coach last year and remember thinking he seemed kind of scattered.
High level racing experience can be an advantage, but there are at least a dozen other more important factors that determine whether a person will be a good coach.
Halls quote on the front page pretty much sums up how I felt during my first few years as a head coach at the hs level
I'm 100% sure that Ryan Hall could care less about what you think that he should do with his life. Buzz off, loser.
Seems like all the HJ parents liked to second guess my workouts, including the dad who said "So you don't run marathons? You're not even a real runner. I ran Boston." It would have been nice to look him in the eye and say "I'm Ryan Motherfu¢king Hall!"
Amen.
You implied that he at least must care a little bit...
I'm curious why most of you don't think he would be a good coach?

How'd his career go once he started training himself?
