Last Saturday I ran my first collegiate 8k and did terrible. I'm hoping to drop my time a ton when we race next in two weeks. Anybody have some success story about a big drop from race to race?

My first three 8ks freshman year in a six week span were:
31:24
29:50
28:03
capped that season off with a 31:30 the week after 28:03
I wouldn't worry about any one race too much you have a lot of new training and racing ahead of you.
My first 8k freshman year I ran 260x. Then I got a bit hurt and missed some races and a month later I ran 2457. I then only dropped 20 seconds over the next two years. And then senior year I went from 2430 to 2330. I don't think any of it matters since every course is different.
