Come on, guys who want to be top professional marathoners don't want to put in the mileage? I'd think if they were taught that was the ticket to a sub 2:10, they'd gladly do it. What their doing isn't exactly easier by being lower mileage - it's just more complicated, and it's not working!

Issue is that people do NOT want to put in the mileage. Runners want to run 60-80 at max and run fast. That's won't cut it. You need to run at the very least 120 miles per week to get fast. Some runners don't have the drive and go on to tough mudders, obstacle racing, spartan racing or other cross fit inspired instant gratification type of races. To each their, but don't come here preaching how difficult obstacle racing is. Or cross fit for that matter.
