I'm watching Fox NFL Sunday, and I see Michael Vick is key contributor these days. And I say this as a long-time Atlanta resident, football lover, and non-treehugger, but I sincerely think he should have never been welcomed back to mainstream publicity in any capacity.
I think there are so many offenses that can be successfully rehabilitated - minor assault things, drug use, DUI, etc. However, this is a man who actively participated in electrocuting, strangling, drowning, and hanging innocent animals. I mean....does this strike you as anything short of psychopathic? If we see a child who tortures animals, we use that as an early flag that they are displaying future serial killer behavior. Why is Michael Vick not held to those same standards? Because he's a celebrity? Because he did it to an animal and not a human child?
Naturally he publicly apologized, and is now part of animal rights groups, etc - but seriously he HAD to do that stuff, not only as mandated by the judicial system, but also if he wanted any hope of having a steady job after prison. Do you honestly think someone capable of doing those sorts of things to animals just has a sudden epiphany like "wow, torture is wrong, huh?"
To think about what he did still makes me sick to my stomach, not just for him but for humans in general. People say "oh he's done his time", and all that, but dude.....who the f*ck cares? If Jerry Sandusky got out of prison in 10 years, would he be welcomed with open arms as a college football analyst? OF COURSE NOT. Some crimes are too heinous for forgiveness, and I think what Michael Vick definitely falls into that category.
