I know there are multiple threads on PF, but I’m hoping to get some individualized advice on my foot pain. Since about mid-March (6 months ago), I’ve been battling a ton of foot pain. The pain is located at the bottom of both feet. I describe the pain as either sharp or aching. It started after runs during one of my 60ish mile weeks. The pain is an “overuse†type of pain that is worse when running longer distances and standing on my feet for long periods (I am a nurse).
At the time, I was wearing OTC orthotics (Powerstep insoles). For a while, removing the insoles helped with the pain but then it returned.
I’ve literally tried everything including including…
-taking time off (the longest stretch total was 3 weeks but I haven’t been runningmuch since then)
-OTC insoles (green superfeet and powerstep)
-icing (works temporarily)
-Calf and soleus stretching
-PT (during which I received GRASTON and dry needing to both calves and feet)
-taping (most effective method but I’ve worn continuously for about 3 weeks and it was starting to wreck my feet
-compression socks (no effect)
-Foot and hip strengthening with balance boards, resistance bands, etc
After about 10 sessions and about 2 months of PT, I went to a sports podiatrist in the Boston area. He fitted me for custom orthotics and gave me a cortisone shot in each foot. In total, I have had 3 to each foot. They have had very little effect. He took X rays which, of course, were negative.
I’m hoping you all can give my advice to manage this foot pain. I do have tremendously flat feet and overpronote. I’m really hoping that I do not need to take time off from work, since the pain is worse the longer I am on my feet and at work.
Thank you
