Of the 16 men who have gone under 59 only 3 (Z. Tadesse, Wanjiru and Geb) have a better 10000 than Rupp so yes sub 59 SHOULD be possible/doable for Rupp (26:44 is the real deal for anyone) If Rupp were a Kenyan with personal best's of 7:30 for 3000, 12:58 for 5000 and 26:44 for 10000 and who has a Silver Medal in the Olympic Marathon behind only Eliud Kipchoge, wouldn't everybody think the course record of 58:46 is possible? and under 59:43 probable? with Rupp he may just run to win, The field in Sundays Copenhagen race looks stronger maybe Rupp should have run that instead to get a fast time.
Rupp won bronze in the Rio marathon, not silver. A lot of people seem to make that mistake. You seem to be fantasizing about his theoretical half marathon potential, and failing to put this race in any context. I think he could have threatened 59:00 from 2012-2015 and could probably still get the AR in a focused attempt, but not 3 weeks out from a marathon on a warm, humid morning. Anything under 60:30 would be shocking, and any victory would tell me everything is likely fine. I'll predict 2:07:35 FTW at Chicago, his lifetime best.
True my bad, Lelisa got 2nd
Is Mike going to run or Rossi this race?
No, I was not on here trashing Rupp for New Haven. It's amazing how people in society label you as something and then once you have that label, they are incapable of seeing things objetively. In politics, if you are labelled as a Democratic, nearly all Republicans think whatever you propose is awful without even evaluating it and vice versa.
Here I've been labelled a Rupp hater simply because I don't bow down to him and therefore they think I trash him all the time.
Did you not read the week that was? I said Rupp had more in the tank.
How does anyone view that as me trashing him? It's quite the opposite.
Somehow you think I trashed him simply because I pointed out that the overall pace wasn't fast and also pointed out that field in Chicago isn't deep at all.
I see why Fake News is popular. The masses like to read what they want to see rather than facts.

I biked next to Ritz for a bit when he ran 60:55 in 2012. Will probably be in the midst of a long run this Sunday, though, so will probably see the front-runners in passing on West River Drive or Kelly.
Very well done. I particularly like the bit about fake news. When you share only a piece of what you said it is also misleading. You said that the times weren't fast when Rupp ran faster than the last several years and dropped 60:00 pace the last 10k on a hilly course. It's not that you have to like Rupp or whatever I just think you should do more to promote the sport and the matchups we get to watch. Instead, you complain. You complain about the fields. You complain about the times. You complain about the runners. Try promoting the sport and getting people excited.
Bingo

Super stoked for this one right in my backyard. It's a little bit of a quick turnaround after the NH 20K for Rupp, who said in the original press release he's using this as a 'training run' for Chicago. The women have a much better chance to run fast -- let's not forget that this course is home to the fifth-fastest half of all time (58:46) on the men's side, and if not for Houston I believe it would hold the U.S. all-comer's record for women (67:11) as well.
I'll be on the ground in Philly -- wrote a preview for the race here and I'll try to get interviews with everyone notable. Let me know if there's anything specific yall would like to be asked.
https://www.flotrack.org/article/61811-rupp-hasay-look-to-tune-up-for-chicago-at-blazing-fast-philly-rnr-halfI think he was referring to the thread where About the race. The one where your first and only comment about the race was that the race was slow. ANd then you said a guy who was posting was lying about being there. He pretty clearly was there. Are you trying to tell people that you do not mostly complain about a Rupp or make negative statements about him?

Weren't you trashing all over Rupp's race at New Haven a couple weeks ago calling it slow? Now it's fine that he's 3 weeks out versus 5? I think you like to just come on your site to disagree with people and make bad personal attacks like what kind of marijuana are you smoking. People want good performances out of Rupp and cheer for him.
Week / Galen Rupp’s Got More In The Tank
30:40 / 28:24 – 1st 10k split and 2nd 10k split for Galen Rupp at last week’s Faxon Law New Haven Road Race, where he won the second road US title of his
Recheck the thread? I didn't comment at all on the person who was there. I didn't call the race slow. I pushed back against Rojo for calling it slow, pointing out Rupp's time was faster than the last several editions of the run and that is impressive given that he's 5 weeks out from a goal marathon. I'm trying to be excited for the Chicago Marathon instead of throwing out conspiracy theories about a weak field being setup for Rupp to win. My MO is to try to stop the LRC bash-train and advocate they elevate the sport by promoting good matchups and good races. Instead, we get a whole lot of complaining. That doesn't grow the sport or get fans excited.
Just like last week when he thought Lagat would break Hall's record. Hmm how did that 63min work out for Bernie.

Does this race have timing mats in the middle? I'm worried that a local Philly man may try to cut most of the course to beat Rupp and take Hall's American Record too.
Hmmm - interesting idea...

Good swimmers can cut across the Schuykill river.
A 61 half will be a good tune up for Chicago. That's equal to a hard effort, but not so hard that you can't get in few more solid training runs before he starts his tapper. I am almost certain Rupp could run a sub-60 with a full taper and an all out effort, but it is only going to be 90% effort considering the bigger fish is the marathon 3 weeks out. With that said, the tricky part for Rupp is Philly is one of the most prestigious halfs and I suspect if he has a chance to win in a one hour race, it is almost impossible for any athlete throw away victory to save himself.
Let's not forget that the Rock 'n Roll brand has all but cut out prize money from their events, as well as travel assistance for elites. This is a huge blow to the sport.
Brojos, the site has been producing some decent pieces recently. Think you might want to take this one on?
