The majority of people taking the poll pick Hasay over Defar surprising, also why does it only have a sub 60:30 for Rupp, as a 26:44 track 10k runner he should have the course record of 58:46 (M, Kisorio) as the goal, anyway he should at least run under Hall's 59:43, I say 58:55.
Unfortunately the conditions don't look favorable this weekend for fast times. Current forecast is calling for temperature in the high 60s at the start with about 90% humidity.

That and it's a training run for Chicago - likely not an all out effort.

I should have had sub 59:43 in the poll.
I guess I could have done sub 59:43, 59:43 to 61:00, 61:00-62:00 over 62:00.
I do know with it being the 40th anniversary the organizers are hoping to see something special.
But douglas, are you in a state with legalized marijuana? I'll be every penny in my bank account he doesn't run sub 59:00. I'll give you 3 to 1 odds.
That stuff you are smoking must be good.
For starters, Chicago is in 3 weeks. I'd like to see the list of runners who have ever broken 60 3 weeks out from their marathon. Hell within a month of their marathon.
But if you have a list, post it.
To be honest, you dont want to be doing that.
Rupp would have to be in supreme shape - shape of his life to do something like that and Nike hasn't paid someone to carry him 8k in this AR attempt.l
He's gonna run 61:00 or 62:00 the most, I don't see him running under 60 at all this weekend. It's just a tune up job.
I really wish these races had qualify coverage like Chicago. It would be pretty fun to watch this type of competition go ham in a half.
Are they going to do it in the road ?
Weren't you trashing all over Rupp's race at New Haven a couple weeks ago calling it slow? Now it's fine that he's 3 weeks out versus 5? I think you like to just come on your site to disagree with people and make bad personal attacks like what kind of marijuana are you smoking. People want good performances out of Rupp and cheer for him.
Not a strong men's field. If Rupp wants more than a tune up for Chicago, it will have to be a solo effort.

Are you aware the sub 59 is blazing fast? There's a very big difference between calling out his last race as being slow, and saying there's no way to expect him to run sub 59 this race.
Sub 61 would be a fast race in these circumstances. I'd expect 61 high.
Does this race have timing mats in the middle? I'm worried that a local Philly man may try to cut most of the course to beat Rupp and take Hall's American Record too.
rojo, are you a compulsive gambler? You offer to bet people in almost every post. Rupp's not likely to run fast at all at this point. When they're in the marathon game, they just want a solid effort and often not all that much faster than goal marathon pace. I would be surprised by a sub 61 from him, but absolutely shocked by sub 60:30.

He also put up $200,000 of his own money that some worthless slob from Philly couldn't run a particular marathon time. And that wasn't even a bet, so he had nothing to win. Except page clicks, hmmm....
Rupp will run 61 for the win. He could definitely beat the AR, but AlSal will not let him work that hard so close to Chicago.

Rupp is my favorite runner and I would to see him do something special, but this is just a tune up. Probably running this half at roughly what he wants to go through half in during Chicago.

My comment was more on Rojo's flip/flopping. One week Rupp is slow and the next he's in a marathon buildup. At New Haven I thought it was a solid mark in a really good race. He closed his last 10k at 60:00 pace. I was on the side that it was a good result 5 weeks out from a marathon, knowing he was there to race and get a solid effort in. I think this weekend will be something similar- 61:00-62:00. I'm not going to call that kind of a time slow after the race like Rojo did at New Haven. He's in Philly to race and get a solid effort in.
Of the 16 men who have gone under 59 only 3 (Z. Tadesse, Wanjiru and Geb) have a better 10000 than Rupp so yes sub 59 SHOULD be possible/doable for Rupp (26:44 is the real deal for anyone) If Rupp were a Kenyan with personal best's of 7:30 for 3000, 12:58 for 5000 and 26:44 for 10000 and who has a Silver Medal in the Olympic Marathon behind only Eliud Kipchoge, wouldn't everybody think the course record of 58:46 is possible? and under 59:43 probable? with Rupp he may just run to win, The field in Sundays Copenhagen race looks stronger maybe Rupp should have run that instead to get a fast time.
