Hi guys, I was in 2:20-2:23 shape for 800m and 5:3x for 1600m at the end of August and I've started base building now. (started beginning of September and have done 2 weeks of easy running + strides)
I was wondering if this schedule is good enough to get me to sub 5 for the mile by late December, 2:10-2:15 800m would be a secondary goal for me.
All of September and maybe the first week of October will be base building, just 30-60 minute easy runs with strides and a weekly sprint/speed development day
Most of October I'll continue running easy but will add a weekly threshold/tempo session: I'll alternate between cruise intervals and continuous 20 minute runs. I'll also add 200-600m repetitions with full recovery at mile pace 2 times a week (Daniels)
Most of November I'll continue with the tempos and add in, along with the shorter full recovery mile paced repeats, longer repeats weekly (800-12oo) @ 3k-5k pace, and at the end of the month I'll start adding in the standard mile workouts like 10x400, 16x200 and 3-4x800. I will continue sprint/speed development until halfway into the vo2max stuff and then stop it but will continue with strides.
What do you guys think? Very sorry if it's long winded or could have been summed up way better. Appreciate any help/commentary/insight, thank you :)
