Can a man who doesn't drink be trusted?

people in here who are drawing equivalencies between people who drink and people who don't drink are in denial about the enormous health risks, both physical and psychological, that come with regular alcohol consumption.

I never drank in high school because I didn't have many friends, and the ones I did have were not into it either. I grew up hating people who drank because it was illegal and they thought they were so cool for drinking. When I got to college I had a gf (now my wife) within the first three weeks who didn't drink so I was never pressured to drink. I also made not drinking part of my identity in such a way that people respected it and I made more friends that way. In high school people thought I was a loser for not drinking and I socially separated myself from the crowd but in college I understood that if I only interacted with people who didn't drink I would have one friend.

so yes I used to have a superiority complex about it but since I started approaching it differently my social life improved. I never went to a bar or a house party in college but I had a great time. Also now I realize that although I don't drink I still have developed unhealthy ways of coping with stresses such as procrastination, but at least ingesting poison is not part of the problem.

I can't imagine that 10% of Americans have 73 drinks a week. That's a very high level of alcoholism.

9th decile is quite easy to hit, though. That jump between the two is just ridiculous.

So, in your experience, can a man who doesn't enjoy the occasional tipple or two ever really be trusted? Have you ever met a solid, decent man who is teetotal? Medical, high level sporting activities excluded.

I have never met such a person as all seem to have a hidden agenda or negative traits.

Perhaps a better question might be can a man who worries about other people's non drinking habits be trusted?

I know a lot of people who have 70+ per week. They would tell you they only have 20 per week, but their cocktails are triples at least.

I once heard of a manager who wouldn't hire somebody until he saw them in two social scenarios. He wanted to see them interact after a few cocktails. Second, he would always bring potential candidates to the same restaurant. The owner knew to always send out the candidates's food wrong to see how they reacted. Not sure if it's a true story or not but I like the idea.

I don't make a big deal of my NOT drinking, however, I take loads of crap when I just get a soda, and friends or family are drinking.

I just decided not to drink.

I just don't like the taste of alcohol (hard liquor, beer or wine).

No alcoholism, not a badge of honor, and it doesn't mean anything.

Agreed. I have plenty of friends who don't drink. They don't get "loads of crap" for ordering a sofa. They typically just order their Diet Coke or water and the conversation continues without a hitch. Tell the frat boys to chill out and grow up.

I would certainly trust that man to watch my drink.

I'd be plenty trustful knowing the guy flying the plane I was on never drank. Drunk pilots, the fear is real.

You've obviously never lived with an alcoholic. 150 a week is just one or two an hour all day long.
