I generally hover around 4th or 5th on our high school team. I consistently come in 4th or 5th, occasionally even 2nd or 3rd. We are a small school so we don't have extremely fast times. first race of the season i ran fairly slow time of 20:52, coming from a sub 20 time last year. I was 5th for the team. We have 5 kids who really compete for 4, 5. 6, and 7. I beat 3 of those kids first race. Second race I was feeling good pre race, but something was way off during the race. I ran the first mile around 6:10, but then started dropping off a ton. I'm not sure what happened, but I ended up running a god awful time of 21:06. I don't know what happened, every other kid, the ones i always beat in our workouts, all ran pr's of sub 19's. The only two things that i think could have affected me would be the 4 ounces of black coffee I had before the race (never done before and it was only because I was cold) or jerking it the night before. Now im demoted to jv and I don't know what i should do. any thoughts on what to do or why i ran bad?
