I've been a member of the running "cult" for 45 years, and I'm still enjoying every step, every pain-free easy mile. But of course it will eventually "ruin your knees", "use up all your heartbeats", "kill you like Jim Fixx at an early age", just like LCHF will "clog your arteries", "ruin your race performance", "make you obsessive about food", etc. etc. .
Testify brother!
I want to believe. Pray for me that I may be converted.
I've been running for 35 years and have never been injured. Not once, ever. I haven't missed a day of work, had a prescription, or seen a doctor for sickness for over 25 years. I run ultras, deadlift 400 lbs, and can dunk a basketball in my 50s.
But I guess I'm a ticking time-bomb because I get sick of eating fat after a couple months and want to eat a friggin bagel or some oatmeal. I don't fret. That's kinda the point. If there are pretzels in the break room, I might have some. Or maybe not. I'm free to choose.
Again, keto is a fine elimination diet that has its benefits. The keto folks claimed there was a metabolic advantage and wrote books on it. That turned out to not be true. They claimed there were benefits in combating cancer. That turned out to not be true. They claimed it lowered cholesterol. When it turned out that it actually raised cholesterol in some people, they switched to "cholesterol doesn't matter and anyone who says it does is also part of the evil anti-fat conspiracy".
Every single claim of the keto folks, except that it's a valid strategy to limit your eating choices and reduce calories, has turned out to not be true. But according to you, all science that does not show that keto rules and is not approved by journalist Gary Taubes, which would be 99.9% of science, is pseudoscience. All you're left with is personal testimony and anecdotes of how it's helped others. Which is not invalid. If it works for you, go for it. I'll visit the church now and then, but I'm not converting yet. Oh me of little faith.
