There is a team in my state and in my class/division. Riverside High School in South Carolina. The have about 120 - 140 runners. And they basically dominate every meet. Most of their top female runners are in top 10 of every meet
I was discussing running with my parents and we were discussing what the other teams are are doing different from my coach/my team/me. And i noticed that they have 1-2 coach for boys and girls. And they train boys and girls together for the most part. They go out and they run distance. Girls who can break 20 run up to about 50mpw and boys who can break 18:30 run up to 50mpw.
I read an article and this is one of their philosophies which is basically that there has to be a certain seperation between coach and athlete
"I meet with my captains and they setup the summer plan. I give the athletes a mileage chart and core workout to follow, but everything else is up to the captains and runners. Cross Country requires a sense of dedication that each runner needs to have and build within themselves. Summer is a time where they can decide if this is what they want, on their own. I have been criticized by other coaches over the years for not meeting with my team 3-5 times a week all summer. The athlete needs to be willing to do what is necessary in order to be successful on their own. In a race, they have only themselves to really rely on. It builds a more confident person and a more self-motivated athlete."
This is random but coaches... what do you do to get the best out of tour athletes
