But people will still doubt Dobson. Everyone was looking at Bairu and Gonzalez coming in, but again, Dobson was the top collegian.
This could be a very fast 10k at nationals with ches, ark guys, gonzalez, bairu and dobson leading the field. i don't know when last there were four guys under 28:10 going into NCs.
Except that Sacramento SUCKS with heat and humidity
sac will not be that hot. they will race at 9pm. and sacramento has very little humidity. it is much more of a dry heat
actually the heat at weather should not be a problem in Sactown. And there is no humidity at night in early June. It cools down real fast much of the time by race time. In 2003, it was the Delta wind that was the only problem. All the distance races at night were run in cool mid 50s. People were shivering and the sprinters were Texas dreaming.
great performance but his real chance for a spot in the WC-Team is in the 5k.He hasnt the IAAF-Standard of 27:49 in opposite to Meb,Ritz,Kennedy & Abdi + the chances of beating them at the Trials are also not that high.
just keep doubting wrote:

Hopefully, nobody doubts Dobson anymore. Even at that, I'm not so sure people doubted him as much as just paid more attention to his more famous teammates. So many of them were the guys we read and knew about. Dobson was always in the background, even when running well at USATF's a couple of years ago.
To be honest though, I thought he'd run faster on the Stanford track in a rabbitted setting.
Love how the front page says he broke 27:00. Now it's a little disappointing to see "only" a sub-28 time.
I couldn't agree more. Even after a 13:27 at Mt. Sac and then a 27:59 (school record) Bairu was close in 28:04 while Gonzolez ran almost the entire race alone and finished up in 28:17 (PR I think). I thought Gonzalez's performances was more impressive since I watched him run close to 15 laps by himself, or at least it seemed pretty close to that. At the worst, he ran 10 laps by himself and was still clicking off 68s laps.
Wejo, just thought that you should know that the opening page, under Cardinal Invite, says Dobson broke 27:00.. he's good, but not that good (yet)..
That's a 24 second PR for Bairu? I believe he ran 28:28 last year, but that might be off by a few seconds.
you had to know that was a typo!!!!

More impressive because he either a) chose not to run with the group or b) got dropped .... and then ran 18 seconds slower than Dobson?
Sometimes I have a hard time following the logic on this board... A guy runs 18 seconds slower - in the same race - and someone says the slower guy's race is more impressive.
Maybe I can convince someone that my 32:08 10km in 1987 was more impressive than Dobson's 27:59; I mean, I was by myself for almost 10 laps and the sun was really hot that day.
frankie out.
frankie, I'm with you, I think your 32:08 was superior. Anybody can run sub 28 if they just stick with the pack. It takes real balls to run slower by yourself.
bairu also broke 29 year old school record by 21seconds
Dang! That is crazy, I think it's safe to say he's bounced back from his difficulties of indoor.
Excellent post ramxc! The rationalizing on this board is so disgusting sometimes. I'm still laughing at the moronic thought process. Imagine if Dobson were to read that; he'd be like "WHAT!? WHAT MORE DO I HAVE TO DO!!?? I BEAT THE GUY BY 18 SECONDS!!" Haha
If Dobson can run just below 28, what can Torres run?

Actually, that just illustrates how much many of us underestimates Dobson. Granted, he hasn't made a WC track team, but I think he can compete with Torres at any distance.
Dobson has had some really nice runs the past year. Sub 28 is very very solid!
