Susan Krumins who finished 5th (10k) & 8th (5k) at WC also ran 4:02 plus GB 5k girl also ran 4:01. Good running from the distance runners beating some strong 1500 runners.
Makes me wonder if the USA mid distance girls who changed their focus to 5000m this year need to get another year of 5k training under their belt to handle the longer distance
or maybe the 1500m specialists are better suited at the longer distance by training for the 1500m
Rowbury ran the 5k USA record in 2016 after training for the 1500m all year

It would be interesting to know if the training was changed at all. For all we know they did the same training this year and just didn't get the results. Rowbury for example never looked as fit this year as in previous ones. Different training, injuries, age and so on are all possibilities.
Nice progression for her in last 4 years:
4:19.9 (Youth)
4:09.5 (Junior)
4:06.9 (Junior)
3:58.9 (Senior)
You rarely see this nice linear progression. it's what all female runners dream of, but it rarely happens.

Agreed. The best chances of that happening come from holding back a bit on specific training and racing until their bodies finish maturing. Train them to be generally fit/increase aerobic capacity and do multiple sports until they finish maturing, then turn them loose with specific training and racing and you get results like those above.
They certainly did not wait for the maturing of the body in this case.
But hats off to her. She has had a great year. She shows the mindset that she will go solo if necessary against any field and has solidly broken 15 and 4, as well as gotten under 8:30 and 2, all at age 20. If she develops some more strength to allow her to sprint, she will be formidable.

Whole nother gear at the bell. Methinks she is The One.

If she continues to improve? Next year 3:56 or 3:55?

She isn't built like most western women, because she looks more like a catwalk model. Perhaps that is the secret. She is yet to show that she can handle multiple rounds in a senior Championships.
K Klosterhalfen is the world's fastest female scarecrow.
McColgan, who always looks like she is running in soft sand, broke her 800m PB by four seconds in this race.
Cichocka wins the speed/looks ratio for 2017.
Did Rowbury have the clown makeup on?
No, it is not the secret. Those arms are not healthy and she isn't driving forward with them. Obviously a great talent but she lacks the acceleration to win with a kick.

^^RETWEET for Cichocka
Also nice PR for McColgan, she has run well and had big improvements at 1500, 3000 & 5000 this year. Her Mom is coaching her well.

This. Very impressive finish, smooth and fast. She is build for front running w/ a grueling long finish.
She ran sensibly and and didnt surge from 2 laps out. Incredible talent and such a confident runner, She is going places.
Agree! As I've said before on these pages! Excellent sustained pace but in a championship race with no pacemaker she will struggle - at any distance.
Hate to bring this up on these pages but a certain Prefontaine had faster under distance times than the three that beat him in 1972 - but he lost out in the final kick because his acceleration was mediocre at best. He could run a very fast 1500/mile if the pace was fast and more or less even, as it was in this 1500, but that does not equate to a last lap kick.

Interesting. Was Pre kind of seventies male mid distance Molly Huddle?
Probably right about Pre but if you watch the 1972 race, you see that he was surging back ahead of Viren with just under 200m to go when the latter pushes him back and Pre from that point on sputters on in. I believe that was the turning point of the race.
