I've read all of this - interesting stuff.
Can I make a dew of points
Fake data:
It seems to be implied that randomly creating cadence and HR (even between a range) will provide decent scammed data. In my humble opinion, it won't. Pace, cadence and elevation (or more accurately, elevation change) need to be taken into account. Otherwise I think it will be easy to pick holes in the scammed data. We all know our HR goes up when going up a hill and down when going down a hill (at a given pace) for example. In my opinion, this is not a trivial task to fake.
Strava followers/likes/comments:
Mimi said in the MarathonTalk interview (I think it was that - it could have been a different interview) that she didn't use Strava and set up an account specifically for this challenge. I don't really want to mention age, but could this be simply an age thing - Sandra is younger and more into "kudos", whereas Mimi doesn't care so much about that side of things, and so doesn't follow many people? What this has got to do with "outing" her as a cheater, I don't really know.
Uploading to Strava:
I am just what some on here would term a "hobby jogger", with a few marathons under my belt. In the last 6 weeks, I've been using a Garmin 230 to upload to Strava using my mobile after a race. If 1-sec tracking is set up on the Garmin, it can take half an hour or more, even in good mobile coverage, to upload. I've done two marathons since having the device, with 1-minute tracking turned on, and this has happened both times in good reception areas (4G). In my opinion, just from my own experience of uploading data, the fact that AT&T has good reception does not necessarily mean that it's easy/quick to upload to Strava.
The team:
I know for everyone, Strava data is part of what will make the record stand or not, and getting it on in a timely manner is important. But surely the team are quite busy doing other things. Even if they take the devices off of Mimi and try and upload immediately (which, to be honest, seems very unlikely) there can still be a delay as mentioned above. If the team are busy doing other things (Richard from RD said that they are having 4hrs sleep a night or something?), delays can happen.
Conclusion:
I really do not think Mimi (or anyone) is faking the Strava data. I think that's a red herring, but if I'm proved wrong, so be it. I can't explain the turning off of trackers. It could be something simple like the tracker wasn't working, so they turned it off to save battery, and then forgot to turn it back on again? Not a satisfactory answer, but a possibility, surely.
Basically, I think there is a lot of noise and actually no evidence of any wrong doing at all. I am hopeful that Mimi is doing the right thing here. To "out myself", I was initially hopeful about RY too, but quickly changed my probably about 100 pages in to that thread. With Amy, I never cared as she's just annoying!
