Sandy is killing it. I hope she doesn't overdo it.
I noticed Mimi's white board didn't have a target distance the other day. I wonder if that's because of her struggles.

Getting in 50 miles seems the best that she can do today. Her major accomplishment will be crossing over the Mississippi River and into Iowa; about 9-10 miles more from the 39-40 miles she has covered as of 2:15 PM.
OCT 10th:
Start Times:
Sandy 3:04 AM
Mimi 3:03 AM
At 7:45 AM
Sandy 20 miles
Mimi 18 miles
At 9:48 AM
Sandy 30 miles
Mimi 26 miles
Lunch Break UPDATED
Sandy 35 miles (start 10:48 AM, end 11:18, 30 minutes)
Mimi miles 31 miles (11:06 start AM, end 12:00, 54 minutes)
At 12:00 PM
Sandy 38 miles (~23 min additional running time)
Mimi 31 miles
At 1:33 PM
Sandy 45 miles (~23 min additional running time)
Mimi 37 miles
At 2:36 PM
Sandy 50 miles (~23 min additional running time)
Mimi 41 miles
+1 to So far today for the updates. Makes it fun to check in on each day to see the progression
Thanks. I thought to post and add updates after it appeared that Mimi was targeting miles over end of day rest time. As you noticed already she falls behind after a few hours. Then it seems her pace settles down and the miles run gap increases steadily. Mimi is 20% slower than Sandy when she run/walks a steady pace.
Yes, thanks a lot for the updates. It's always interesting to check in and see where they are during the day.

Looks like Mimi will hit at least 50 today.

Yup, right across the Mississippi River in Iowa. She just started on a path of no return. She has to cross a bridge on US-67 without a pedestrian crossing, but with a reasonable shoulder (per Goggle Street View), and it is rush hour. Not the safest of crossings. Once across there are two parks with large parking lots they could stay at. I have given up on Mimi's RV ever stopping at an RV park, let alone a motel.
Well, Mimi has chosen to cross the bridge heading into traffic. No support car. That should be safer than crossing on your own with cars coming behind you.
Mimi decided to switch sides of the bridge and now has traffic behind her.
At 4:43 PM Mimi reached the border of Iowa which is half way across the Mississippi. As Markus has stated: now the real running starts.

Yeah, I always run facing traffic. Glad she made it over without anything happening. Bridge running gives me a kick of adrenaline.
I think she switched sides because the sun sets roughly in the direction the traffic was coming. I am not sure when sunset occurs there but the sun would be setting somewhere around when she crossed.
It is best to plan road running on roads during sunsets to avoid traffic altogether. Either the sun is blinding the driver, or the cars are coming behind you.
Agreed. Between that and running in the dark it seems like she and her team aren't very concerned about safety. I wonder about her running in the dark (even with a head lamp). One twisted ankle and it could wreck the whole attempt.
Thanks for the mileage updates. At this point that is the only thing I care to follow. I haven't kept up with the thread, is Mimi still cheating or is she actually "running" every step???????

There are two different versions of Mimi in terms of pace, cadence and mileage. There is the before halfway version where those are steady, and the after halfway version where they are more erratic. It is a unique opportunity to see the results for two different runners (Sandy and Mimi). Also to see the results when a runner changes like Mimi has.

I'm taking a look at Mimi's cadence data on her Strava and Movescount. There are several spots in her data where her Suunto watch show her as having a cadence greater than 100 rpm (200 spm). A normal cadence for a runner for this type of running would be 75-90 rpm (150-180 spm). So why then does her Movescount and Strava show her at several spots as having a super human cadence, like 144 rpm (288 spm). Are the Suunto watches really that bad? Can we even trust this cadence data?

There's definitely something odd about Mimi's cadence data. It constantly jumps back and forth between roughly 190 steps/min and 145 steps/min, about every 30 seconds. I could understand seeing those two cadence numbers if she's doing an alternating run/walk strategy, but could she really be alternating run/walk that frequently? Switching gait multiple times per minute seems to me like it would be incredibly inefficient and distracting. Something just doesn't seem right here.
It's 9 o'clock and Mimi is still running?

A 16 hour day. Her longest yet. She completely stopped and restarted multiple times. She is obsessed with mileage. And it is obvious she gets updates on how Sandy ran.
