Everybody at my running club measures it once a week (2 minute recovery rates) meaning we count how many beats their hearts recover in two minutes - we are told that athletes should see drops of 60+ bpm and sedentary people drop around ~35bpm. There is this one weird guy in my club who freaks out if his HRR is less than 65.
But as we get further into a training cycle, a few people have noticed their HRR results improve as their fitness improves.
However, my recovery scores have stayed the exact same even though I have taken 15 seconds off my mile and about 40 seconds off my 5k within the last few months. My running colleages think this is extremely weird that my rates haven't improved.
Personally I don't think it means too much but should my rates have improved during the four months I have improved? How much does it actually matter?
