42 year old male, started running 2 years ago after 10 year layoff, recent PRs of 5:21 for 1600 and 18:45 5k, recent training volume of 30-33 MPW for the last 5-7 weeks, long run has been a weekly 9 miler around 7:30 pace for 5-7 weeks, tempo workouts: I ran below 90% max HR for 4 miles two weeks ago averaging 6:30 pace. Last week I did 4x1600 with 90 sec rest and averaged 6:20. Felt like a tempo should feel.
So, a local event is happening in a few weeks and I am thinking of running. Only 1 person ran under 90 minutes last year, 86 min I think. Second place was like 90 and change, third was 92 min.
Can I run under 90 minutes and keep it respectable based on what I've been doing in training?
