The WC is a better track meet than the Olympics.
No one who is not into track cares about the WC.
The Olympics gets the eyeballs of millions of non fans and goes a long way towards bankrolling the sport for the next four years.

The answer is NO. If it weren't for the world championships every other year you wouldn't have as many high quality athletes in the sport and thus the performances in the Olympics would be what they are.

Agree 110%. The olympics are nothing more than women's gymnastics, track sprint events (but only if the Americans dominate) and swimming (also because Americans typically dominate)
