Football Coach/AD cutting Boys XC because football is losing players

Assuming this is real, there are many people above the FB Coach/AD. Go to the principal, superintendent, or school board with your concerns. Start by getting an answer to why it was cut without being accusatory.

The school should be promoting activities that the kids want...not what a coach/ad wants.

I think that football coach/AD needs to take a look in the mirror and figure out why he is so terrible that he is losing that many athletes to cross country. It is 100% his fault and that's pathetic that he thinks he needs to remove a far more successful sport completely from the school just to have a small hope that it could make his football team better. What are the chances really that a Varsity XC runner could also have an impact on the football field at the Varsity level? Gotta be pretty small.

Pretty sure we go to the same school and I am a Sophomore. My parents said they talked to someone and that the school's athletic department leans on the football program to make some money. That's why they just got rid of the boys team. Five years ago the football team was really good and everyone went to the games. Now that XC has become popular and more people are leaving football because of the CTE stuff, football players are turning to XC. After learning that 5 (I heard) returning starters were quitting football to run XC and then play soccer, the AD pulled the plug.

Let's see...

XC doesn't give you concussions and permanent brain damage

XC doesn't foster cultures of bullying and rape

XC develops character and the foundation for a lifetime of health

XC costs comparatively little in equipment and liability insurance

Parents have caught on the the long-term dangers and short-lived glory of playing football and are guiding their kids away from the sport

Is this a public school? If so, I don't see how you can just do that. Even if it's a private school, the runners are paying customers.

At the high school level, a mid-d type could be a good football player and could also step up to at least run a decent 5K. My school's football team included a WR who ran 49/1:52 for the 400m and 800m, and a kicker who was a 4:15 1600m guy. They were both good enough to be starters on a team that made it pretty far into the state playoffs, and the kicker ended up playing DI football.

You're telling me that neither of those guys could have made the top 7 of an otherwise mediocre XC squad?

XC has been axed because because "football is losing players"? That makes no sense.

Your "XC coach (who also coaches soccer) is leaving"? How is that possible? They are both fall sports.

And why are your AD's decisions being announced just prior to the onset of fall semester? Doesn't that screw up the schedule for all the other schools in your conference?

Your story seems to have a serious credibility problem.
