I was in the stadium for Friday's evening session (steeplechase etc.). It pains me to say it, but London is unrivalled at hosting the big events and the crowds are unbelievable, they were cheering every athlete like they were Brits.
Well done.

Isn’t that unusual? Did the Queen address the crowd on opening day via big screen or something on how to properly act? 🤔
Agreed. London should receive benefit of a doubt toward frequent hosting of this event just like St. Andrews in the British Open rota. I posted that the other day.
It feels like a mini Olympics every night. In fact some of the events have far superior atmosphere than anything from Rio. For example, last year Coburn won her Olympic bronze in a near empty stadium during one of those genius morning finals.
How has the attendance been? Haven't seen any comments/figures on how full the stadium has been.

Been very full. Hasnt been a pair of tickets available for an evening session since the start.

It certainly was entertaining. I was at the 2003 WCs in Paris and that was pretty good. The East Asians (Chinese, Japanese and Koreans), I think, also take these things seriously. So it does make sense for a couple of countries with the 💰 the population and the spectator interest to host these events frequently. The fact that the hosting country, was English speaking and cooler helped some western countries more than normal. Brazil should never have been granted the Olympics.
This is my 7th world champs and by far this has been the best attended. Every session has been packed, maybe not a 100% sell out but pretty close. The crowds have been loud throughout and as someone posted not just for UK athletes.
I think when the show moves to Doha in 2 years you will see something totally different. I would bet that their will be sessions that will be almost empty.
The big question is in 4 years how will Eugene handle everything? Will the stands be full for evening sessions I am sure, but the am sessions doubtful. And where will all the fans stay? How will you move all those people to the stadium each day. London has a great public trans system that it seems most used to get to the meet each day, not the case in Eugene. Once fans find out that will have to drive hours each day to see the meet or pay sky high prices for places like an airbnb it will be interesting how it will all work out.
The clock is ticking Eugene will you have your act together?
The Olympic park is nice too. All wild flowers and grass banks to sit on. It was good to see so many small kids (even babies) there too, right up to 10pm.
I'm ready for Tokyo now.
Turn on the race walking, what a setting the Mall, and Buckingham Palace.
