The fella is an absolute shite. The way he reacted to the bumping in the heat and then that cut throat and mo bot sign he did on the start line of the final, pathetic.
I don't support him. The whole thing is a fraud. He's from Kenya. What's the point of having country associations when you can just go a get whomever to run for your country. And what the hell has the us army got to do with sports? They should not be in that business. Some kind of weird PR thing some desk jockey cooked up? If you just transfer countries then just eliminate the country system alltogether. Just run track like golf or tennis as individuals.

Have some pride in our university system. That's what got paul where he is today.
Have some pride in our US Army. That's what has given Paul the discipline and tenacity to be better than the Kenyans.
Hating Chelimo is your own self hate.
Keep that bile in your own belly. Paul has two world medals. Some no name nobody (who knows nothing by the way... MWR regulations allow for prize money... sorry LIkety Dipshit) posts with hate.
That's all you got man. Hate.
By the way, Chelimo was inducted into UNC-G's hall of fame in the fall with a wall dedicated to him and his achievements. (That's called PR)

Does anyone know Chelimo's time for the last 400 meters? He was way behind at the start of it but I'm not sure how far without being able to see the video. If he can even out his effort that last lap he will be very dangerous in 5ks from now on.

- This is so rich ... thank-you, where to begin?
- NCAA Pride?: in some guy that was suspended from his team for personal gain? Chelimo's actions should have triggered a NCAA investigation on UNC-G. Most likely, Coach Pearson & alumni DID NOT nominate him for their HoF. Did Chelimo's sponsor make a contribution?
- Army Pride?: Thank you for confirming that indeed the US taxpayer is subsidizing his salary for NOT serving in the real Army while simultaneously reaping professional earnings.
- And Ben True stays home ..
WTF?

The only beef I got with chelimo is that I would have rather seen him keep going with his 62 opening lap like he did a USAs instead of see him tuck in. Seems a bit hypocritical is all- I know you can't use the same race strategy in domestic and international races but on one hand he saying he's gonna give the fans a show and on the other hand he doesn't.
I was also excited, then disappointed he didn't keep the pace fast. However, as far as I know he didn't say he was going to set a fast pace all the way, and the race did turn out to be a good show.
In the post race press conference he said he would have kept going if no one had followed, but that Farah and others got right on him immediately, and that's the reason he back off the pace. If they hadn't followed, then he would have kept going.
What he could have done in that situation was what Kuts did in 1956 when his competitors did the same thing. He backed off like Chelimo did yesterday, ran slow for a bit, then took off again, then repeated this until they eventually stopped chasing and he kept going that time all the way to the victory.

Yes. American made--appropriating someone else's gesture and then using it against them is quite American, alas.
Nothing against Chelimo personally. Nothing against skin color. The fact is, the majority of distance running fans will never be able to relate to or get behind him the way they would Ben True or Eric Jenkins. If Kerron Clement were to move up to the 5000 and have success, he would have a much easier time being accepted by (the majority of) US distance running fans than any of these Kenyan transplants. Our success at their hands (feet?) is an illusion. Let's not kid ourselves - we have hired ringers. If Callum Hawkins were to move to the US and start winning medals left and right, I would feel (as would many others) the same way as I do regarding Chelimo & company.
Why did you choose Clement? How is he so different than Chelimo?
I've really enjoyed watching Chelimo race. Love the ways he's raced, and I'm always inspired by his effort in races. I consider myself a Chelimo fan.
But in fact I think he's very popular here, despite this thread's premise. His name was brought up several times in a recent thread about runners that everybody loves.
The problem is we dont have a real major league. The diamond league is an olympic glinpse but we need something more frequent and available for racing. Like a full roster or potential 18-33. The NCAA acts as a premier league for track which I dont like especially when some of these kenyans barely speak english and we not only allow them entrance but then graduate them. We give them scholarships and citizenship after. But if you come from lower middle class america and want to go to school good f*%*ing luck paying for it. Your parents either dont have the money or you cant obtain necessary loans.
As for the track, we lack a true pro circuit so the ncaa is the pro circuit not just for the usa but a high number of foreign olympians. Diamond league is for a small handful of people and is basically a summer monthly olympics.

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. The point I was trying to make is that my issue with Chelimo has nothing to do with the color of his skin. LRC posters many times will use this as a dismissive. "Oh, you're just a racist". Clement is a product of US upbringing and training. He is an American racing in a USA uniform. Chelimo is (IMO) a Kenyan racing in a USA uniform. I have just as big an issue with Kenyans running for Quatar. Come on, who are we kidding here? A debatable stance to be sure.
Another point, to reply to a recent poster. Once again, nothing against Chelimo personally. I love the way he races. He runs with passion and conviction. Very exciting athlete to watch. I wish more US runners had balls like that.
Why do you call him a US runner?
Why did he have balls in a 13:3X final?
- Exactly ... college is PHENOMENALLY expensive, US runners normally don't begin their careers until 9th grade, etc ..... we're not even giving ourselves a chance! OBTW -- not hearing the college coaches come out & say "I would love to recruit American athletes, but they don't want to come to school X."
- And the US Army ... can't figure out their WCAP BS!

Who cares he ran great and medaled.
Paul Chelimo!

It is success, you dolt. It isn't the most successful, but it still is success.
Real success for Fake-Soldier Specialist Chelimo is exploiting WCAP for everything it's worth & not deploying 1 x duty day in the Army's operating forces.

jfc, it is like Chelimo personally wronged you. He moved here in 2010 to go to school and joined the WCAP program in 2014. Yes, he's taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to him by being a member of the WCAP, why wouldn't he? So, he's been in the US for 7 years, that not long enough for you? What would be? 10 years, 15 years, never?
-I agree that WCAP is the worst thing to happen in the history of USA distance running. It's more fair to run against close a than the Rift Valley Expeess.
- You should not be granted citizenship in the US Army until you've either been honorably discharged or 4 years.
