Also, honest question: how does it benefit a school to import foreign runners? I could see if it we're a revenue sport, but track is not even close. Who goes to UTEP or donates to UNC-G because they have a good cross country team? Honestly, why do colleges condone giving scholarships and aid to hire foreign athletes in a sport no one much cares about?
- Ben True would have made this final ... just like Ryan Hill
- I wish Chelimo would have gotten ill
You seem like a crappy person

Brojos are racist. They are part of the alt-right. Paul Chelimo you made the US Army and America proud! Love you brother!
Lagat raised the bar for US runners, and Chelimo can do the same thing. More power to him. True, Hill, and others will be better because they have to compete against Chelimo.
Silver in Rio, bronze in London is a good story. The fact that the person who did it is wearing the US jersey makes it a great story.

Diversity.
Love Chelimo! His twitter really highlights his personality. He races hard and represents are country well. He's done more for our country than most of the people on this forum. Really happy to have him become an American citizen and challenge the best.
When Lagat changed allegiance, he was Kenya's top guy. Now Chelimo is stepping into that role. Good observation.

- Disagree ... so far, barely any publicity from either the Greensboro NC or US Army: they know Chelimo is a fake!
- Bad Story!

Chelimo's "actions" at UNC Greensboro were to pursue some more competitive races when they wanted him to jog around in some local races. He will bring fame to that team for decades, and if they'd treated him better, he would return and help recruit. What chance does a team like that have to bring in anyone remotely close to his talent in the distances?
I love Chelimo. He was a few tactics away from possible gold.
- Crazy Talk
- They paid him for his education/track career & he repaid them by taking the money & running on his own for Senior year. Good on Coach Pearson for having a backbone. Left the Spartans w/everyone having a bad taste in their mouth on Chelimo.
- Should be court-martialed in the Army for "double-dipping" just like he did at UNC-G.

Athletic Directors pressure the non-revenue Coaches w/a "Just Win, Baby!" and/or "By any means necessary!" to win the all-around Conference/NCAA troph.
Chelimo lost whatever respect he was due with his classless gesture at the beginning of the 5k. Like Mo or hate Mo, I detest the gesture Chelimo made. Chelimo should be hereafter be ignored.
Great post Robert.
Strangely, given how poorly the Kenyans have done in the 5000's in Rio and London, Chelimo could likely have easily made the Kenyan team in both cases. However, I don't blame him for not wanting to put up with the stupid politics of the Kenyan federation. For all the stupidity of USATF re: field sizes, money, etc., at least as an American he knows the only requirement to make a team is to run the Trials and finish top three. Nothing about selection committees or required attendance at training camps, etc.

- Like I've said ... a chucklehead
- Conduct unbecoming a soldier
And why Americans should support Chelimo is.... America made him the athlete he is.
Have some pride in our university system. That's what got paul where he is today.
Have some pride in our US Army. That's what has given Paul the discipline and tenacity to be better than the Kenyans.
Hating Chelimo is your own self hate.
Keep that bile in your own belly. Paul has two world medals. Some no name nobody (who knows nothing by the way... MWR regulations allow for prize money... sorry LIkety Dipshit) posts with hate.
That's all you got man. Hate.
By the way, Chelimo was inducted into UNC-G's hall of fame in the fall with a wall dedicated to him and his achievements. (That's called PR)
This Lickit guy is wrong in so many ways.
Enjoy your life stewing behind your computer screen.
This foreign recruiting is also ruining the NCAA track events. I do not want to hear the announcers say something like: "...and Moses Kip Chalanga has just added an NCAA title to his impressive resume, including two Olympic gold medals."
The only beef I got with chelimo is that I would have rather seen him keep going with his 62 opening lap like he did a USAs instead of see him tuck in. Seems a bit hypocritical is all- I know you can't use the same race strategy in domestic and international races but on one hand he saying he's gonna give the fans a show and on the other hand he doesn't.
