Also, I don't think the point is to run only fast DL races and set world leads. The real proof in the pudding is running the Champs as well as possible. Clearly, the Kenyans are not faster than the Americans..
9:03 is not an unbelievable time, and she's just 24. Having a breakthrough is normal at that age. Laura Muir improved much more drastically last year.

Courtney was only two seconds off Emma at USATFs, and we knew that Emma was well under 9:10 shape. She finally found the confidence to stick with Emma the whole way, and Emma in turn stuck with the Kenyans the whole way.
Interesting to see she is NOT in the IAAF testing pool (as of June 20th)... how many times if any was she tested OOC?

Nope, IAAF lists her 3000m PB as 8:56.99, faster than Emma Coburn's 8:59.76!
Frerichs is a true oddity, in that she was WAY undertrained in HS. She barely did XC, emphasizing other sports. I'm a Missourian and she never even really cracked the state radar.
If anyone has a believable improvement margin, it would be her. I take nothing for granted anymore and won't guarantee any elite is clean, but for Frerichs there is a very plausible explanation.

She wasn't even all state.
Its not surprising since Courtney stated right after Worlds 2017, "we did alot of training over the barriers at 3 flat pace, so I knew I could run that pace". That was from interview last year so I was actually looking for her to run around 8:55-56 this year.
