Just another example of how bad our American men have been.
Robby is trash
WHO AMONG US hasn't come down with a stupid freakin' injury at a most inopportune time?
WHO AMONG US has, admirably or not (not -- meaning pigheadedness leads to further damage), refused to let a chronic injury stop him from reaching some goals (like winning the US Trials in the 1500m), even if, in the end, an ultimate short-term goal (like medaling in the World Championships 1500m) becomes IMPOSSIBLE to achieve?
Yeah, like Robby Andrews should be kicked when he's down because something in his PHYSICAL being ultimately put the kibash on his big-stage London dreams? No way. Some top athletes can still perform with certain injuries. Some can't, despite their high pain thresholds and take-no-prisoner hyperfocusing personalities.
I bet it wouldn't have mattered had it been Robby Andrews with that calf injury today or me with the same injury on the starting line of this weekend's local 10k joggathon. On our own very different levels, perhaps it would have been impossible to attain personal performance excellence due to the wrong injury at the wrong time.
When you're talking about the World Championships, an injury can humble an elite runner so very quickly. Happens all the time, above and beyond the fierceness or wimpiness of the person.
Robby, if you read this, good luck on a successful recovery, and sorry the sh*t hit the fan today in London.
He was going to take last and did a Suzy.
Tough break. Calf injuries are always ready to strike when you're having to kick hard on successive days, especially with the previous one in rainy weather(?).
This isn't about Robbie - it's about Vigilante.
Robbie, just 3 weeks ago, was speaking about some of the "hardest workouts of his life" which culminated in his less than overwhelming 1min50 800m time trial.
What on earth is he doing these kind of workouts 1) if he was carrying any sort of injury and 2) irrespective of fitness, 3 weeks out from a world champs.
Robbie is just a simple kid who does what he is told and is too trustworthy. The real clown in this equation is Vigilante who just doesn't seem to get it. So save your hate because directing it at Robbie is the wrong channel.
Seems like a genuine guy. Don't know why anybody would disbelieve him. He is the runner he is, has always showed up until this race.
I've had chronic calf injuries. It can happen that fast and be that painful, especially with races so close together.
