So I have had a good consistent summer so far: basically tempos, some Fartlek stuff, and 40-50 miles for a while now. Not too much speed besides some hill sprints, etc.
This week I'm doing a down week at 30 miles.
My question is this: how do I keep improving all the way to mid-late October (state and district meet are top priority this year )? Last year I felt really in shape at the beginning but went kind of stale near the end/ mid of the season. Same with track
My ideas/people's advice:
Keep mileage fairly high until season is wrapping up (don't drop until Late September/ Early October) ---
In XC and Track I did 35-40 before those seasons but then dropped mileage due to coach's plans to 25-30mpw 2-3 months out from peak race...I feel like I was most in shape at beginning of seasons... for that reason I want to stay at 40-45 miles in season this year until early October then start to drop
Keep stength training/lifting through seasons---
This because I did not do this consistently last two years. Lay off the strength as season is wrapping up and as I am dropping mileage
Don't leave your best efforts in workouts---
I felt worn out for a lot of meets...
And of course sleep and eat well for obvious reasons.
Thank you for whoever takes the time to read this.
