Is that really a running "anthem" like the woman in Runners World writes?
Since rap is the most degenerate music ever invented, I never imagined a coach would actually play it to motivate a running team.

You seem really old man
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are sweaty, there's sweat on his sweater already, he's really sweaty
I find it motivational. It ties in with his struggles in life and how us runners have to take our one shot to win.

Yes, I am really old. That's why I am asking the question as I have never even heard of the song before let alone that it is supposed to be a running favorite. I have heard of Eminem.
Oh! So you're saying there's music out there that's not really your culture? That's FASCINATING.
How is rap more degenerate than rock?
He bet more rock stars have trashed hotels than rap stars.
DMX
to each his own, I think its a good song although I don't listen to it cause I already killed it when I was 14 or however own. Care to list some of your own favourite running songs since you clearly have much better taste than everyone else?
Ran an awesome tempo to this last night:

Must have been a pretty slow tempo.
I don't like Eminem.
It won him an academy award!
Whether you like rap or not, it's not music. Not the vocal part at least. It's more like beat poetry from some hep cat with a mike.
Most rap also sounds like someone getting in your face about shit. My theory is middle class white culture got so soft and effete that kids don't get enough people in their face, so they have to simulate it with recordings.
Eminem said he wrote as "Eye of the Tiger of Rap"
I think he is right. A kid on one of my state championship teams listened to that song on repeat for an hour on the bus and before the race and ran awesome.
Everybody has a different pump up song, but I'm stunned you have never heard it. It was a number one rap song for 6 straight months.

That music takes the least amount of talent and targets the dumbest audience. Then those who do listen to that junk out grow then look back and wonder how they could have ever listened to that crap.
John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, there it is.
Lost in the Echo by Linkin Park was sort of my anthem for my 2013 track season. The tempo is pretty good but there is a good bit of lyrics(rapped by Mike Shinoda) about not giving up towards the end that I think most runners can identify with.
used to be that you had to have considerable talent to have a career in music, either the ability to play an instrument or sing well
then rock/pop took over and a lot of folks with very little talent had huge careers, thanks to the changing market, tastes, and the technology that allowed sound to be so manipulable
with rap/hip-hop, no music skill whatsoever is needed. just the ability to talk fast...
RAP = Really Annoying Prattle : )

You sound like a highly intelligent and musically gifted individual.
