Here's an explanation of what's been happening. I posted here about a month ago but I really don't understand what's going on.
-Senior in HS this fall, last season 5K PR 16:12
-Developed pain below kneecap on patellar tendon in mid June, which turned to pain on the kneecap for a little over a month, and as of a few days ago, is now pain ABOVE the kneecap.
I've been struggling with training all summer. I can do easy runs, I can even do faster stuff as long as it's short (or on grass) but where I really struggle is the runs that are 50+ minutes and sub-7:00 pace. Around the 45-50 minute mark I start getting the pain, and usually have to stop. It's different every time though, one day I did an 80 min run no problem and a week later doing 60 was pretty painful. I tend to overpronate and know that might be the issue, I got some insoles for my shoes with better arch support and have been working on quad strengthening all summer. It has only slightly improved throughout the summer, and with the season starting Monday and a preseason race on saturday, I can't seem to find the cause. I had goals of making the podium at state and getting our school record, but now I'm starting to panic.
