Jenny is a former Diamond League champion, just not many races this year. If this race were 10 yards longer she would have had the gold.
Always hate this line of reasoning. They don't race the 410 meters, the 810 meters, the 1510 meters, or the 5010 meters. So who cares?
Jenny's personality is grating and arrogant but I love her work ethic and she seems very nice overall--happy for her. Would have liked to see Muir medal after doing all that work, but as other people said, she probably would have nabbed a silver or bronze if she had run 3:58 pace instead of 4:05 pace the first two laps.

Why is Simpson only good at championship meets? She's never a factor on the diamond league circuit
It's because she doesn't push. She lurks or hangs around in may be fifth place and then strikes.
Had she gone with Hassan the way Faith did, she'd have capitulated.
She is better suited for championship races.
Put differently, if Laura had trailed Jenny, she'd most likely have medalled.
Faith and Hassan were dying at the end but Faith is a beast!
I am proud of her.

Don't agree. Muir did spend a lot of energy on the backstretch but I think she needs to be ahead of Simpson to hold her off the last 50-70m.

I just re-watched the final and was super impressed that when Muir surged past her on the backstraight, she didn't overeact and surge with her, but remained composed and let Muir gap her, knowing that one or two of those three would be coming back to her. She even talks in her interview how she was thinking that Kipyegon and Hassan were tearing each other apart around that curve. She truly is an assassin, in a good sense of the term: keeps her cool then pulls the trigger at the right time and in the right direction.
Great point. Simpson simply has superior instincts to virtually all of her competitors. She covers some moves and allows others to go on without her, if she senses it's too much.
Normally I don't like closers but I've always appreciated that Jenny isn't a one dimensional dullard in that regard. Somebody like Brenda Martinez would have stayed in the second lane throughout while fretting traffic problems and always running defensive until she decided to move. Simpson has the rare ability to adjust to one situation after another. Consequently she overachieves in major events.
Some of the American women are slightly overmatched but intelligent and take advantage of breaks. Hassan and Muir ran themselves out of the medals while desperately trying to win, similar to how Coburn picked up that steeplechase silver last year.
I find it hilarious that people find a way to make everything about Salazar. I think Schumacher coaches non-us runners, right? Is he betraying his US runners and only trying to sabotage Salazar by coaching Mo Ahmed? How about OTC? What are they not allowe to do?She ran a great race! I enjoyed seeing her medal. At least this crowd and the site are not asking about medications and TUEs after this race.

I give Salazar a good deal of the blame for taking on the coaching of Sifan Hassan. The Oregon Project was supposed to be helping America regain distance excellent and here he brings in someone not only to help Rupp medal while potentially costing other Americans, but now someone for (or against?) Rowbury to cost Simpson.

don't be deceived
jenny is in fantastic shape right now
i'd offer her a prelim current line of fit as follows & i don't think it's generous as i think she might even be capable right now of dipping into 3'54s :
54.00 / 1'57.25
->
2'30.28
3'55.57
4'14.63
8'25.83
14'45.66
Jenny is ALMOST as good in champs as Centro, but much better than Centro at front-running when necessary, or running a fast time. I like how she is a very balanced runner with many weapons in her arsenal.

I would venture that the top 5 in that race could go 3:55 or better at the moment. Muir & Semenya ran far too wide in that race.
Hassan was dying and drifted to the outside of the lane to block passing runners. It backfired big time.
When I was running cross country, we used to do something we called "routine-10", where my teammate would pass an opponent on the left, they I would immediately pass on right. Have fun watching the head jerk back.
Never saw a finish like this. Two of the best in the world, Hassan and Muir got the routine 10 experience.

Of course if the race was 10 yards longer, everyone would have started their sprints 10 yards later, and the results would have been exactly the same. headslap...

You must have been pretty far back in the pack to routinely be three abreast in the final stretch. Did you feel like a big shot kicking it home for 57th place?

I disagree with you for many reasons but the main would be the obvious, she is #2 at the WORLD championships, and was less than a second to winning the whole thing, that is pretty remarkable with such a stacked field including the testosterone pumping Caster Seymena and the world record holder as well as other phenomenal athletes competing. As she said in her interview, she believes in a clean sport and getting second today proved that she is one of (if not the best in the sport) best even when among cheaters, she took one for the clean athletes and really made a statement. I think she has every right to be overjoyed as she was, there are many many athletes who will never be able to say they qualified for worlds let alone medal and almost win again.
Not the entire vid, but most of it. Also funny gifs.

I love how JS gets no respect because she gives no respect to her competitors. It's all about her and her drama queen status.

Couldn't be further from the truth.
I agree with you disagreeing about the 10 meters, as the race is 1500. I do disagree though with you saying you have liked to see Muir medal. When a 10,000 M guy goes out insanely fast then dies, do they deserve a medal? Every competitor is allowed their own strategy. Muir decided her best chance was to lead the pack and she paid for it. I have nothing against Muir but I'm not gonna say she deserved a medal. Now, if we find out that 1 and 3 cheated, that is a different conversation.
She was quoted in her post race interview with LRC that she knew how tough she would have to run to beat these women and also when the interviewer was begging for her to call Hassan a sore loser she said she understands the disappointment. All she might have done was say I beat some cheaters, and based off what we have seen lately, she probably isn't too far off.
Damn, what a bunch of lame, ridiculous arguments in this thread. She ran a great race and has had a great career, period. She's never going to have the most raw talent (or drug-induced talent) in these races, but 4 championship medals is a pretty great resume.
