what advantage did he have over anyone else in the race?

LOL. Never thought I would be super happy after a Gatlin win.
Fvck you, snaggletoothers!
The big man looked terrible in the lead up to this final. He had a suboptimal start and really tied up bad the last 30m (with grit and strain all over his face). He never really looked comfortable at any point.
I was really pulling for Christian Coleman, he is the future and his start is like he is being shot out of a cannon.
Unfortunately it was Gatlin who took down Bolt. Credit to him, he looked great. The crowd booing him (or a combination of disdain + Bolt not winning?) was hilarious.
Hats off to the big man, he still has a medal for his efforts. To stay on top for as long as he did is uncanny. Is Bolt running the 200m or no? 4by 100m?
What a start by Coleman. Have to replay again but I think Gatlin had to be in probably 7th place 50 meters in.
Gatlin gives a classy interview to FranceTVSport France 2. Heaps praise on Bolt, says it's not a revenge and ignores the booing crowd because "my parents are here".
I, for one, am happy for him. DUDE DID HIS TIME! What would have if we can't believe rehabilitation? The unforgiving nature of Americans is why a supposedly modern nation like yours continues to perpetuate barbarities like the death penalty.
Gatlin tested positive 11 years ago. People have served longer sentences for much worse. Knew Gatlin wouldn't get the credit he deserved.
He should have been banned for life. A decade ago. Drug cheat.

I love it! If anyone thinks bolt was clean, they're crazy.
+1. I have no problem with a drug cheat beating another drug cheat.

Bolt is lucky DeGrasse didn't run because then Bolt would have got nothing
In the prediction thread I posted that Bolt would not medal. Degrasse announced his withdrawl an hour later.
YES YES YES, I F*KKIN LUV IT!!!!
I've been rooting for Justin Gatlin eva since he was down and out with that doping conviction. It is the same as pro cycling. It always seemed unfair to me that Jan Ullrich and Ivan Basso were thrown out of the Tour, while the winner was later proven just as doped.
Athletics is a con game. If you don't dope, you don't win, but if you dope, you risk losing all. You invest your whole life for a game of roulette.
People blame dopers, but the winning strategy according to game theory, is not reliant on the participants. So spectators, by increasing the stakes, are also making doping more logical. And the spectators are booing. They are either imbeciles or hypocrites.
It bugs the hell outta me how Usain Bolt and the Jamaicans have gotten away with murder. The reason Usain Bolt has such respect for Gatlin, is because Usain is doing the same, and Gatlin Gun is the only one capable of touching him.
So Usain might be the best sprinter in the history, but this was so deserved Gatlin. Way to go.

If you've ever read the arbitration decision on Gatlin's first bust, it was bullsh*t. Google it. I believe you can still find it on the USADA website. His second was legit and he has served his time. People can piss and moan all they like - if you don't like it, work on changing the rules.

Checkered past of doping. Long suspension. Keeps grinding for another decade anyway. Gets the title back at age 35. Incredible.
I've merged two threads into 1. I love the title of this thread.
It's weird but I respect Gatlin. The guy served a 4 year suspension. In the NFL, you serve a 4 game suspension. To sit out that long and come back isn't easy.
It amazes me that a wheel stadium will boo him but they are mad crazy about MO Farah whom there are many questions about. That's why the title to this thread is PERFECT. Life is messy/complicated.
Cheat or not, you've got to admit Gatlin was clutch tonight. Two years ago, Gatlin got tense and beat himself. Tonight, he stol it from Coleman and Bolt. I had written Gatlin off after his semi.
Weak race and boring championships everyone running 9.95+ wtf lool they must have had a drug crackdown or something reminds me of 2003 championships when kim Collins won lol

Haters miss out on a great comeback story 10+ years in the making for Gatlin. Gold in 2005, suspended 2006, comes back 4 years later, not fast enough at first, not welcomed, keeps going anyway, gets faster and starts winning races, then people start to get really angry falters when he had his best chance in 2015 bejing, but still doesn't give up, 2017 finally gets that comeback win!
Also Congrats to Bolt on a great career!
Boring race and weak times who cares if gatlin one apparently bolt knew he would loose why degrasse dropped out or he would have gotten 4th place lmaooo makes me wonder if he even cared about this race to begin with
They boo Gatlin because he was busted twice; they cheer Mo because he's a Brit, first, and second, because he's never been busted.
Justin PURE HATE Gatlin took down the British establishment's wonder boy!
