Next best guy was 4 second back. What a talent this guy is. Cameron Cooper only ran 1:51 as he was shooting for the national record

Incredible if true. This would still be short of Brit Max Burgin's 15 year old record this year of 1:49.42.
"He owns the world records for 13-year-olds (1:56.41) and 14-year-olds (1:51.23), though he has a rival, Max Burgin, for the 15-year-old category, as the Brit set the current age 15 record at 1:49.42 earlier this summer."
Video already up. That race was amazing. He front ran the whole thing (out in 53.85). He clearly died the last 50, but his first 600 was incredible--1:20!
Looks young, has great form. I wasn't on the hype train until now.

Pretty sure Kipketer has those beat.
Made a post about him about a week back noting how much I like this guy. He is so darn likeable. If he continues to improve, he will be one of America's favorite runners. A category that includes the likes of Sydney McLaughlin
No one can steal the spotlight from Grace Ping. NO ONE.
Hope he keeps it up, everything I've heard is that he's undertrained and a good kid, look forward to seeing him on the HS scene.

If he is even 15 (and I think his bday was recently).
As of his MO state HS title (late May?) though, he was still 14 and ran 1:50.84.
Either way, he has his whole next years HS season to improve.
Here is his WR from last year, 1:51 negative split:
I watched the video, it wasn't a perfect race; he had to push too hard for the lead which caused him to go out in 25 for the first 200. He ran from 400 to 600 like he was shot out of a cannon, the 3rd 200 is usually where you gather yourself for the penultimate 200, which is usually the fastest. This is a tough kid, he was totally lactic coming off the final turn and I could see him battling the 800m-death-march all the way to the finish line with no one in sight. Put him in a paced race with better athletes, no 800m rounds and a 1500m the day before and he could have run 1:48x. I have not seen the Max Burgin WR race, but I know it was paced by Michael Rimmer, so I am assuming is was probably against senior competition and he didn't have to run rounds and other events.
Hopefully after the AAU's, he takes some time off, a couple weeks of chilling before starting XC training. Unfortunately, I have a felling he may take another shot at that 800m WR. Grandville didn't leave any food on the table either when it came to age group records. Up to age 18, he didn't finish a season without an age group or grade record, but it cost him. Grandville had a good NCAA career, but he never ran faster than his high school record.
Hey man, I'm not usually a grammar nazi but your mistakes in this make it confusing. "Penulimate" means "second to last." So you saying that the "3rd 200 is where you gather yourself for the penultimate 200 which is usually the fastest" doesn't make much sense. The 3rd 200 is the penultimate 200. And if you meant to say that the last 200 is usually the fastest I would have to heavily disagree. The last 200 of the 800 should almost always be the slowest if you are going for time. By far most time trial/record attemps happen as follows; out fast the first 200, relax just a tiny bit the 2nd 200, crush the 3rd 200 and hang on for dear life the final 200.
Other than dying a little bit the last 50, as you say, Brandon ran a very typical record-attempt type race.
It wasn't a perfect race? I am not sure one learns how to run any race at the age of 14/15!!!!!!! I am sure by the time he is a JR in HS he will have it down, but he has to try different strategies for him to see what works best for him to run his fastest! Do not ever over analyze a 1:51 800 race by a 14 year old! lol
lol calling out the grammar and ignoring that he called Granville "Grandville"

I know these are different sports, but Michael Phelps was 4th in the OLYMPICS at 15.
But Michael Phelps could only run about 2:40 for 800m at that time.
His 800 free is probably faster than his 800 run.

I'm trying to figure out why this was brought up? Lol. They are different sports and it is much easier to be a teen and elite in swimming.
