I do think the two make a fascinating compare/contrast. Same age, same intial opportunities, similar talent, completely different outcomes.
Suffice it to say in summary, that Willis never let his emotions get the best of him, and Webb never let anything get in the way of his guts.
Rationally speaking, Willis had by far the more successful career, except by one measure: Despite having been a non-factor for many years, Webb gets 10x the LRC attention of the still-in-it Willis. Among the fans, emotion always comes first (notwithstanding the US bias of these boards, but that is also emotion-based).
As far as the IAAF table comparison: those of us that have often competed and coached these two distances can attest to the veracity of their accuracy. Steeple to 3000? More nebulous for sure. But 1500-mile is dead on at all levels.
