Independent witness actually are generally paid for their time. In fact, Guinness even provides this service. It wouldn't be out disallowed for the sponsor to hire witnesses.

If I was doing a World Record run I would have recorded the data in as many locations as possible. Also, I can't believe that, being sponsored by Millet Sports, who provided three treadmills for the event, that they didn't provide independent witnesses.
Independent means that the witness has no familial connection to the person applying for the record.
Also, watching her in the video, her running form sucks. Her fists are clenched and her arms are raised up too high. She wastes lots of energy for an endurance runner.
