Hey everybody, here’s an update for the past couple days. Thursday, we did a 9 mile run on a loop around a lake (3 loops) which felt pretty easy, went about 8:30 pace because I wasn’t feelin it to go hard. Friday we were in Portland as a team and jogged the course with a few strides. Saturday was the race and I’ll put that next:
Warm up was about 1.5 mi run with drills and then strides, my splits were: 5:25, 11:23 (5:58), 17:37 (6:14), 18:03 5k. As you can see, I went out WAY too fast and I’m not happy at all with my race. I wish I were smarter because I could’ve paced that so much better during the race. I ended up being 6th man on my team (by .1 sec) and I’m a little frustrated because I’m literally 2 min behind our #1 right now and the JV guys I’m usually a whole minute ahead of were only like 22 sec behind me. I’m gonna try and learn from this and get ready for this next week because I know I’m in sub 18 shape right now. Also, I’m this upset as well because I ran 18:16 here last year, so not much improvement. Next week we have a workout Monday, race (dual meet) Wednesday and an overnight trip invitational Saturday that’s supposed to be even faster than yesterday. I really need a sub 17:45, maybe 17:30 to stay on varsity this year, so hopefully I’ll hit that. Sorry for the rant! Any racing tips? Thanks!
