This is my first post on here, so bare with me. I plan on keeping a very generalized log for a bit and I'll see how it goes from there by the responses I get. I'm a Junior in HS with PRs of:
5k (XC) - 18:1x (20:2x as a freshman)
3200 - 12:2x (never ran it seriously, only ran twice at end of season JV meet)
1600 - 5:00:xx (ran 3 times total in HS, all of them this past season)
800 - 2:17:xx (haven't tried too seriously yet)
400 (relay) - 58.7x
Pole Vault - 10ft
I've been running since 6th grade, but only seriously trained last year for XC, although cut short by illness, and in track I was trying out running and vaulting, although I switched to just vaulting the last few weeks of the season. I really want a big improvement this year and that's why I've decided to post on here for hopes of any advice. Currently training this summer I've been running with my team doing an average of 30 to 40ish miles a week with this week soon to be 50 or so. Our weekly schedule is:
Mon - lactate threshold (this week we did 2mi warm up, 20 min LT, 3mi cool down total was 8.8mi averaged 8:04) (I'm really bad with speed right now, for LT went out @ 6:00/mi but hit 6:50, 7:15, and almost hit the last mile, but not quite with the 6:55 left)
Tue - easy ( 5mi this week averaged 7:35)
Wed - 30 min out (I hit 8.8 averaged 7:23 for 65 min)
Thu - Hills (I did 10.5mi with very large Hills around 2mi in and then rollinghills after that, next week will be repeats, averaged 8:27, tired from yesterday)
Fri - easy (probably 4 or 5mi)
Sat - Long (13 mi this week) (organized run only every 2 weeks, last time I biked 21mi at 16mph instead because of shins, but would've been 13mi and 4 weeks ago was 10mi)
Sun - Optional (I take off for religion)
I bet you see this a lot, but how do you think I'm doing? I turned 16 middle of this month. I don't expect too much this year, but hoping for sub 17 (state is in November). Just a little note about Wednesday, there's a runner on my team ( a senior) who trains like none other, but can't race(17:05 PR), and so he usually has no training partner and I ran the 30 min out with him @6:49 (6:23 for first 3.6mi) (just wondering how good this looks for only summer base?) and died on the way back while he just kept going at it. Anyways, tips are greatly appreciated, I'll keep this thread updated as long as I get responses. Lastly, how well do you think I'll run in season with speed work?
