In terms of medals no country wins more medals in freestyle except in rare circumstances like Melbourne 1956 or Worlds in Fukuoka 2001 when Thorpe and Hackett were in their prime. You might want to brush up on your swimming knowledge.
Well, actually, since the topic was men's freestyle, Italy leads with 5 medals, then it's France and US tied with 4.
Not including relays as that is more of a circus event (like in track) done between a few countries.
