My coworker made a strava segment. It's a downhill mile that he ran in 8:30. Should I try to take off as little as possible and run 8:29? Or just go all out and see how fast I can set it.
The attempt will be 1 hour from now.

Take a couple of seconds off and repeat every time he comes back. Bonus points for beating him the same day

Break it as close as possible, and stake out his house and break it as soon after each of his next attempts as you can.
You shouldn't end sentences with a preposition.
Also, you are only supposed to capitalize the first letter in a sentence.

What about proper nouns?
Well if you want to keep this going beat it by a couple seconds. If you destroy it he will never attempt again and make a new route. Then if you follow him you look like an ass.
Can you run it in reverse and still have it count? If so, go crush that route in the uphill direction with a 7:30 mile.
Start two minutes after him, pass him half way, and finish strong.
Well???

Well done big man, you go and smash that record.
Is strava record update?

Go all out ,i'll predict you run 8:31.Hobbyjoggers competing makes me cringe.
What you should do is drive the segment, finishing in 1:30 or something. Have him flag it and removed. Then go and do it for real by running.
yep. plus, you make the co-worker a better runner by slowly lowering the CR.would be fun to get a rivalry going where you guys are talking about it at the office and taking a few seconds from each other here and there. Then, when you get him down to around 7:30 or so, you run a sub 5:00 and never talk about it. If he asks just say you were feeling good because you drank a mountain dew

How do you even know he made the segment?
This is exactly how I pictured the real world. Thank you.
Break it by a few seconds. If he re-breaks the CR, beat it by as much as possible the second time.

Did you bonk and walk in a 9:12?
I am extremely disappointed with the lack of payoff with this thread. It's all about the payoff!
Honestly, you should just CRUSH the course record by as much as possible. Just an absolute relentless attack. This is Strava we're talking about, nothing else matters. Put this little wuss to shame with a public display of athleticism. In fact, if you haven't already attempted the record, you should announce it to the office that you are, in fact, the BEST runner in the office and the rightful heir to this Strava record. This is YOUR record. If you are not the fastest person in your workplace, why are you even running at all?
Life is about the small victories, and this is the smallest! Carpe Diem!
