I've been an auto racing fan all my life, watch most races. I was trying to explain to my friends how that ending could play out. Admittedly I'm a bigger open-wheel fan than stock car, but increasingly so as the latter has become extremely gimmicky. I hate playoffs, stages, overtime, etc. The sport has been hurting the past few years since their extreme success in the 90s/00s, but these aren't pure auto racing concepts, they're just trying to "Americanize" the sport at the risk of alienating their fan-base like myself.
The big loser was Megyn Kelly.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is actually a terrible place to have a NASCAR race. The lack of banking and restrictor plates plus the long straightaways make for a spread out field, with those in front getting big leads. Lead changes only happen at pit spots and cautions. There seems to be more crashes than most races.
