So Im planning on running my first marathon sometime in the next few months and have just been getting back into shape with some base mileage (40-50mpw). I havent started any real workouts yet but ran 16:50 for a recent 5k
For reference I ran 15:05 for the 5k and 30:31 for the 10k in college (2 years ago). I plan on training consistently adding in longer repeats and long runs up to 20mi leading up to the race. Also, I plan on racing my way up to the distance also. Im pretty flexible in terms of where to run this marathon, but would prefer a more lowkey race where I feel like I can be competitive. My goal is run around the 2;30 mark....
Realistically how long do you think it would take to train for that given my ability? I was thinking possibly middle to late November? Is that too soon? Should I look for something in January or February?
Do you have any recommendations on which marathon would be best?
