I consider myself decent at math, but I am struggling with adding parameters for my calculator.
It's an excel spreadsheet that does a calculation much along the lines of statsgangsta's calculator (all credit for the original idea goes to him), but it has more training paces and more distances for which it can calculate times.
Now that the basic calculator has been completed, I am trying to create an adjustment for weekly mileage. Right now, if I input, say, a 400m time of 55 and an 800m time of 2:00, it gives a 1600m time of 4:21.8. That is very reasonable. But what if that person goes from 30mpw to 40mpw and starts training more specifically for the 1600m/mile? Would he run 1 second faster in the 1600m, while not improving in the other two? In that case, I was considering an option to enter mileage and an option to enter the event for which the athlete is currently training. That would need a specific constant for each race distance (the calculator works for 400-10000m) to denote the benefit of higher mileage on performances in that event, as well as a logarithmic adjustment accounting for the diminishing returns of higher mileage. It would also need to be able to add a bonus for the specific event for which the athlete is training.
I am doing this at the request of my coach to help provide accurate training paces for team members as well as race predictions to help with splits.
This may seem very daunting, and that's precisely why I asked for help. I am more curious than anything about whether this kind of calculation is even possible.
Thanks
