CMU brings in D1 XC Champ and Mr. Cross Country, Riad Rababeh, but as many know good runners go to die there
Hurons/ Eagles will see their day.

When do you think the last time was that the D1 XC State Champ competed in the following Track State meet and wasn't all state?
Indoor? ,
What is the point of your question?
Curious if it had happened before, and agreeing with the general sense that not great things will happen at CMU.
Who will have the better women's squad, Michigan or MSU? State loses two big seniors, will incoming freshmen fill in or will they redshirt?
U of M with the better girls team

?????
How is CMU not that bad? I don't get how you people think anything good is happening there. Other than throws and vault it's been a mess for a while.

Coach Drenth will give any freshmen who has proven themselves in races the option to not redshirt. All the freshmen will run unattached at the Spartan Invite. If any freshmen shows they earned a position on the travel squad there or later in the season he will likely give them the opportunity to run attached with the travel squad. This is what he has stated in the past and what he has done the last few years during which I have closely followed the team. MSU has two incoming freshmen women who could make the travel squad.
I have not look closely at Michigan's returning team members to see how they compare but the addition of transfer Audrey Belf will certainly help them.
MSU has a lot of talent but unfortunately several of their top potential runners have suffered injuries in the last year. One who contributed during the fall XC season was out during the indoor and outdoor track season. There were others too. I think both teams will be very competitive if they are healthy.

MSU will have returning if healthy:
Bullough
Smith
Rogers
Poe
Way
Schwartz
Goethals
McClintock
McDonald
Beazley
Fuller and others
The top 7 in no particular order above had good 5000m meter times this past track season or were on the travel team last fall and performed well.
The last 4 above have among the top 1500m times for the team from this past track season. One or more may also be able to help on the travel team this fall if they can handle the longer distance. There are several other returning runners who could also make the travel team and may help with scoring. I left them off because they were not listed in MSU's list of top 2017 outdoor track performance. Some were held back prior years due to injuries. And we know that once again a freshman or two could also make it on the travel team.

Yes, Rudden would be one of the others listed with Fuller. I thought about listing her but decided to not list any freshmen from last year unless they ran attached. I see Lindsey ran a 2:11 800m, two 4:29 1500s, and a 4:35 1500m. I cannot easily find all her results from this past indoor and outdoor season so she may have a 1500 that is faster. I don't think she ran the 5000 during track so I don't know how her middle distance speed from track will translate to her 6K XC times this fall. The not knowing how numerous women's 1500m times will translate to the 6K and not knowing who will be healthy or how well their summer training went means that all I am doing is guessing based on prior season times. MSU has the talented runners I listed and more so Rudden and others will need to work hard and continue to improve before they will earn a spot on the travel team. Not knowing makes the sport that much more interesting to follow for fans.
+ Gram
who competed on the travel team as a true freshmen in 2015 but did not compete in 2016.
+ Weiler
who is also part of the very competitive 2015 incoming group of freshmen who has could help if healthy and becomes as competitive as some of her class of recruits.
What about Sarah Kettel? Might she help?

Yes, she is another runner who can be expected to help sooner or later. MSU has a lot runners that could help this fall and in future XC and track seasons. Kettel did not compete in the fall or during the indoor track season so as with any runner who does not compete all season attached or unattached we can assume she was one of the MSU athletes with an injury. She competed in the 1500 outdoors three times starting in mid-April at Oakland, Hillsdale, and GVSU. These were good performances assuming she was just coming off injury but like most of the MSU women, she will need to continue to improve throughout the summer in order to be able to help the team with scoring this fall. I am looking forward to seeing who is able to compete at the Spartan Invite and how much they may have improved over the summer. There are still a few more women not yet mentioned in this discussion who could help. With the loss of three top seniors from last year's team it will be interesting to see who is able to move up and help.
I think both teams on the girls side have quite a bit of talent. Will just have to see which ones turn into solid runners at the next level. MSU seems to have quite a few that have been making incremental improvements, UM has had some of their transfers/Canadians do really well and obviously Finn.
Both could be really good if they get lucky with some big improvements and staying healthy.

From UofM and TFRRS we have the following information that shows the runners from last fall and the track season that thus far look to contribute again or could step up and contribute. I assume all below still have eligibility remaining and are returning. The first 9 are the women who based on prior season times may be most likely to contribute if we ignore injuries and any women who will have improved significantly more than others over the summer. So both Michigan and UofM have a lot of talented runners. We will have to wait and see who steps up this fall.

I would argue that Oakland has the three best runners in Michigan right now. Bryce Strode: 13:49 5k, 23 at outdoor national 5k, honorary All American
Jacob Bowman: 13:58 5k
Andrew Bowman: Sub 14 potential if not injured last season, 8:45 Steeple
MSU and UofM got nothing on this top three punch
