Wow! Thanks for this list!
top 5 in my book are..
1. Michigan
2. Grand Valley
3. Michigan
4. Saginaw
5. Hillsdale
You forgot Eastern which arguably is better than Grand Valley and State (some years). Saginaw? Hillsdale behind Saginaw? Come on--they have a couple good guys but as a whole..
I'll work on my own rankings later, but from what I'm thinking #4. Saginaw and #5. Hillsdale can't possibly be correct. I will take time to look at the facts before rendering judgement though.

Didn't know much about some of the D3 teams. Also you didn't have Spring Arbor on your list, or EMU. I forgot to put Spring Arbor but they are in the middle to bottom.
Also Lansing Community College on the womens side would rank in the Middle ahead of most of the D3/NAIA teams if we were including them.
shoot I forgot Oakland. I'd put them at 4. what are you talking about with svsu not being worthy? they went to d2 nationals last year. we're talking xc Right? Wayne state is not good at all
Hope and Kzoo at 10 and 11? Not even close! The top 5 NAIA teams in the WHAC are better. Top 5 isn't too bad though.
Yeah I didn't really know that much about them. I think Hope is decent, probably way off on K college. There aren't 5 NAIA teams in Michigan though are there?
Eastern Michigan landed a huge recruit by getting state indoor and outdoor 3200 champ Hunter Moore out of Ohio. Moore would have also won the cross country title in the fall if he hadn't fallen with about 600 left. Even that 5000 cross country distance is short for him, so his 14:58/8:58 credentials don't tell the whole story about how great he will be in college.
Eastern Michigan and Michigan are going after many of the same runners in a very talented incoming senior HS class out of Ohio. Whoever wins that will likely be the best team in Michigan for the next few years.
It's hard to see EMU out recruiting UM, but if they can land a couple of solid area guys, it seems they usually bring in some good foreign guys to fill out the team. I'm not sure if I would rank EMU above UM, but I would never be comfortable betting against their chances to beat UM.

Nah, Michigan will remain better. There are nearly insurmountable factors which ensure that a bigger, more reputable school with a more reputable program will remain ahead. A couple of kids from Ohio won't change that.
Side question-why can't Ohio State get these Ohio kids? They've always been worse than you would expect at cross and track.
Eastern always has great 5kers
Ohio State hasn't had a decent distance program in the last 50 years, and I doubt they did before that. If you're a really good distance runner, going to Ohio State is a sure way to kill your career.
Just recently they bring back KD to coach XC/Distance, a great guy from everything I've heard, but a coach with no record of success at coaching/running anything longer than a middle distance race.
Ohio State has been relatively successful as a sprint/jumps/throws school. There just aren't that many schools that can be successful in every event group. I think the administration is ok with the program's history, and Ohio's best kids are ok going elsewhere. I don't see that changing in the near future.
Michigan has the inside track, but Eastern Michigan did well for themselves by getting Moore. EMU also landed Owen Day out of Canada, and he just ran a 3:44 1500.Regarding Ohio State, none of the state schools in Ohio right now are doing well with distance runners, so the best ones are at least looking out of state.
1. Michigan
2. Michigan State
3. Eastern
4. Grand Valley
5. Oakland
Not quite sure why people are ranking Michigan above Michigan State. As of lately Michigan State has been the better team out of the 2. Michigan guys ran fast early on but all blew up by the end of the season for cross country and track this past year.
