I also experimented just with red bull type drinks about 2 months ago. No benefit but no harm either which is more surprising (I don't really drink this stuff normally).
Absorption from the GI tract is reduced during exercise. How much longer than 90 minutes are you running? It's possible that not a lot of the caffeine will be absorbed after taking it 90 minutes into the long run, but you might feel alert after the run.

I will think about trialling a small pot. I've backed off the tablets over the last fortnight as I saw no reliable improvements in my performance, but I may well experiment again. And as an above poster mentioned, gambling with a potential GI upset is not something to be done without substantial reason.
I wear an Ipad mini on my arm held on with an Ace bandage. It works fine, but a regular Ipad or one of the larger Samsung tablets would probably be uncomfortable.
